most of us here are pleased with this announcement. Our resources are limited as they are. Glacier may be closing to the public soon so I am expecting an announcement on it as well.

Question:

Do you think that if we find very effective treatments and manufacture enough vents that the panic will be reduced to a small murmur and people will resume their normal lives?

I think so. And I think we’re very close to both. By the end of April a very effective treatment is developed.

That, combined with the pure restlessness of the average American, will lead to things starting to really re-open in a couple weeks.

This is all assuming no vaccine anytime soon.

If 86% of those patients are dying, maybe not.

I guess the qyestion is if we cut the death rate down substantially, but nothing else changes, do you think people will say frick it we need to live our lives?

I think so and I think it’ll happen

Are you saying that 86% of people that are put on vents die anyway? If you are, I'd like to see the basis for your argument.

I have been saying this for weeks.

I am not an epidemiologist, but I do have an advanced degree in geography with my area of study being human migration and I have taken a graduate level class in historical epidemiology.

People need to chill for a couple weeks . By May we can move to phase 2, containment and treatment. Next January we will be in phase 3, vaccination, treatment, and containment like the annual flu.

Honestly, I think even if the death rate doesn’t change, people will say that within the next few weeks.

In reality this is hitting 2 groups, the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions. Sure, there are anomalys, but an overwhelming majority is those two groups.

The majority will soon say “If you’re in those two groups, stay home and care about yourself, but the rest of us are getting back to normal”

I think a final word on the drug cocktail will also influence how quickly people call for normalcy.

Then some will soon say “as long as it doesn't impact me directly, I'm getting back to normal”

Is this what you meant to say?

It was just posted not too far behind me. Read through the doctor’s notes.

You realize obesity is also a pre existing condition that doesn’t do well with COVID-19

How many people in the US are obese again?

I’ve thought about this as well... I think at some point a lot of grandparents will say it’s worth whatever the risk is to see their grandkids. I know my 70 year old mom is having a real tough time not seeing her grandkids

US now shows a jump in their recovery numbers... 1863 recovered + 1080 deaths.  2943 closed cases

37% death rate of closed cases.  of 72K active still - 1857 are critical (2.6%)

From my nerd at work.

ETA might be yesterday’s numbers

John Emery’s mom and fiancé ’ tested positive. Fiancé on vent. Damn

Everyone may already know this, but I don’t think testing is going to be an issue any longer and turnover time will continue to decrease.

As an example, hospitals are generating their own tests.

Friend of mine’s hospital has their in house test down to about 7 hr turnover time.

Hoping the testing will be a good help especially once we get out of this initial surge. Will be better able to deal with the second wave and quickly quarantine those that need it.
