Damn dude. I can't begin to imagine how scary that must be. No shame in saying that either.

You will have another person pulling for you in me. Sounds like you've got a great family behind you as well.

Here's to you kicking this virus' arse. We're rooting for you.

Believe it or not it gives me strength to see the support I get here. I am trying to stay strong and act like it isn't a big deal when I am on the phone with my family but I really am kind of scared.

Nothing to be ashamed of. We would ALL be scared in your shoes right now. But whatever you have in front of you, let the doctors do their work. The main thing is you want to be alive for your kids. As scary as it is, you gotta be brave and hit it head on. Whatever it takes.

And yes, get life insurance. I got my first policy at 29 for $250k. Just added another $500k literally YESTERDAY. I’m 40. My wife will be in good shape financially if I die between now and 60; likewise for me. You need to take care of that as soon as you can.

First things first. Get better!

Thanks for confirming what I posted.

GOP_Tiger has been anything but doom and gloom on all these threads.

So many people seem to have a rooting interest in one "side" or another, which is absurd. This isn't some freaking football game where you choose a team and root for it. People need to, at least temporarily put aside their own personal and political interests and actually look at the evidence.

And that evidence is that the US is not going to be nearly as bad off as Italy or Spain. I outlined critical flaws in the Imperial study when it was released. You don't need a year's supply of food and an underground bunker.

On the other hand, I have consistently fought back against people who have said that "this is just the flu" and called it a nothingburger.

The truth is that COVID-19 is serious, threatened to overwhelm our healthcare system, and we needed the shutdowns (and my own business is shut down and I'm going broke, OK, so I hate the fact that they were necessary) until we can run enough tests to control the spread of the virus.

The good news is that our testing ability is ramping up quickly, better weather is going to slow down the spread, and we're on the verge of treatment options that will improve mortality rates and help us keep our ICUs open.

In two weeks, it will be clear that we have turned the tide and are winning the fight against this pathogen.

Commander Data, you're a Bama fan but are you in Alabama? Not sure why I thought you were in NOLA.

Many blessings to you -- have faith. If it would make you feel better, ask for pastoral care to visit with you even if it's by facetime or some other method.

eta: Yes, like the other poster said, you sound like a good dad/father. I'm a mom of 3 and a wife, only 50 yo and no health conditions to speak of. Your comments have brought tears to my eyes when speaking about your situation.

GOP what type business do/did you have? I feel beyond blessed as my husband is still working (he's a farmer and his employees are still working and getting paid as well) and I'm working my part time job from home.

My heart breaks for those who aren't as fortunate.

Definitely gonna get life insurance policy when I get out of here. I have just never seriously thought I needed one in my forties.

You never wanted to protect your family in case you got into a car wreck? Data, I'm rooting for you and I honestly don't say that to be mean, but everyone with a family needs insurance. I have a friend who died of a heart attack this year at 38 -- you are never guaranteed tomorrow.

It's an educational service business that doesn't make any money with school being out. I'm still bringing in a little, but it doesn't cover my overhead.

Wow, Italy at 919 deaths today. Almost 3 weeks into the lockdown...

The deaths lag behind new infections, by something close to two weeks. I've honestly been surprised that the Italian death rate has been flat instead of continuing to rise, and thought it may be due to improving performance in treating people. Maybe today was an outlier, we'll see with a couple more days.

I actually think we're of similar opinions overall. I was directly replying to the quotes from the governor of Ohio, who seems to be using some worst case scenario model with outrageous numbers.

I find it very concerning that some of these governors and mayors are making ridiculous claims and citing models with no transparency. I would like to know why the governor of Ohio thinks that they may get up to 10K cases daily and won't see a peak for two months. Or I'd like an explanation as to why the mayor of Los Angeles thinks that they need to shelter in place for a MINIMUM of 2 months. What data possibly supports that risk tolerance level given the damage that will do to their citizens?

ETA: These politicians owe some accountability to their constituents for these decisions if they are making wild statements and trying to impose extended draconian restrictions IMHO

Thank you GOP_Tiger. I’m glad we have people you in this thread being reasonable. So many nimrods in this thread are in a tard circle jerk contest to try and win the “argument”.
I just want to come here and read updates and such, not sift through BS.

I'm starting to wonder if I'm becoming one of those mild/almost asymptomatic patients you keep hearing about

no fever, no cough, but I've felt a nagging "kinda" urge to cough like when your drink goes down the wrong pipe and random back pain/lung pain every now and again for the past few days

maybe I'm just becoming a hypochondriac having been around it for a month

I had that the last couple weeks. It has gone since Tuesday. I was in New Orleans 3 weeks ago so it wouldn’t surprise me if I caught it but just wasn’t very symptomatic.

After testing just over 44,000 on Sunday, we have now had two straight days of testing over 100,000 people per day. That number is going to continue to rise and will eclipse 200,000 in just another week, as new testing systems come online (especially the Cepheid system, in place at 5,000 hospitals around the country). South Korea, Iceland, and others have proven that you can control the virus with enough testing.

In the meantime, the shutdowns will take another 8-10 days to work, as people who contract the virus don't immediately get sick and then don't immediately get tested. But you'll see a peak in 10 days or so.

There are new studies showing promise for chloroquine+zithromycin and also for convalescent plasma, and there are other clinical trials under way for other treatment options. Inside two weeks, you're likely to see good news from one of them and we'll have a treatment option that we know works.

I "can't be sure" -- that's true. But it's what the evidence says is likely. That's all any of us can go on.
