Is that the Lyft line?
No. That looks like people waiting to be picked up. The Lyft and Uber cars stage in the cell phone lot and some get on the outside area past that crossing.
And the line nearest the airport looks to be the taxi line.

Yes that is absolutely the Lyft line. The next roadway over is where you wait for personal vehicles to pick you up.

My wife said it was super nice and the lines weren't bad. Maybe they were just working out the kinks?

Then they've switched things up. I was there for an hour earlier tonight and there was a sign for Lyft/Uber cars on the outer part. With signed delineating Uber XL/Lux, etc.
Maybe that's where they line up Uber/Lyft passengers before their car gets in line, but that area nearest the long-term parking is not just for regular pick-ups.

Talking with someone who flew in the other night and lyft was over 45 minutes wait while uber was less than 5. Uber was $62, but that isn't unusual.
The individuals waiting doesn't seem that abnormal.
Have someone flying in Tuesday morning. Will report what it is like picking them up.

it’s somewhat conspicuous how many posters come into these threads to describe how great their experience was, when every night we have pictures of what a clusterfrick it is.
I picked up a relative on thursday night around 7:30, and it was a mess. getting to the airport actually wasn’t an issue, to my surprise. but between the rideshare line, and the taxi line(which the designers just assumed would merge perfectly with the pedestrian pick up traffic) the experience was a disaster. and I was only there for 30 minutes

It really does seem to be a case of what time you fly in. Sunday 6pm leaving the airport would probably be the normal worst case for ordinary travel.
Everyone coming home from weekend trips.

it's like they built the airport without planning how people would access it from I-10.
That’s exactly what they did

solution would have been to run both airports (limited terminals in the old MSY) and slowly transition over while figuring out the kinks over say...1-2 months?

When its busy at FLL, airport workers go thru the security line and check boarding passes. They then usher you into other lines based off how soon your flight is scheduled to depart. Its awesome. I've never understood why every airport doesn't do that.

An hour wait at MSY was not that unusual before the move to the new terminal.
Usually that was weekday mornings though.

I flew out Saturday to Washington DC and the line was long, but only took 25 min. I got there 2 hours early because of all the stories I heard, and it was a breeze. Had 90 minutes before my flight to get wasted

That is exactly right. The old one was very easy for locals that fly frequently. Paint and new carpet would gave been fine.
I dropped off and picked up someone at the new terminal this week.
Traffic on Loyola was not bad but that passenger drop off area and passenger pick up area is smaller than the old terminal I believe.
All this crap about TSA efficiency is just that—crap.
Baggage claim belts don’t work.
Maybe in a couple of years it will work as well as the old one.
It’s a glorified food court now and there is no way all those food outlets will make it.

Great investment in the airport, but if you have to wait 3 years on the infrastructure - that means someone screwed up BIG TIME!!
Mitch Landrieu is one of the Worst things to ever happen to this city.
Seriously reflect on that statement and all of the terrible things that have happened to this city and then realize that Mitch is worse than almost all of them.
Proud to be a fricking Landrieu.
