Park n Fly shuttles take the main road because they are private shuttles with their own private lots.

Can’t speak for the issues with uber/lyft line, though. Only thing I can think of is a capacity issue vs. the previous setup.

Folks whose IQ was over 80 could have figured that building a dedicated road for uber/lyft/taxi to enter and exit may have been needed. And perhaps not putting the staging area on the opposite side of the airport from arrivals. And having a curb wide enough to accommodate those waiting without blocking other people. Easy to build when you start from scratch. Impossible now.

To me, the food options only make sense for hubs. There are certain hub airports I go to that I look forward to certain places to eat while killing time.
I didn't think MSY was a transfer airport. I bet very few fly in and fly out same day without leaving terminal.

US park has a lot near the new terminal. I'd go with them.

Also early flights or late flights nothing was open. Now everything opens at 3am and stays open for the last flight.

It’s not a huge connecting airport. Pretty much SW is the only airline that you can connect through MSY. But it doesn’t mean outbound and arriving passengers don’t eat there.

Case in point. I flew out last night around 7p on a non stop flight. Too early to eat dinner at my house at 4:30 before I left, too late to eat dinner when I would get to my hotel around 11p.

So I grabbed dinner at 6:15 after I went through security.

And there are a fairly large number of folks with flight anxiety that need to get there early. Add charter groups to that mix and there is decent demand for meals.

Or any flight that gets delayed

Can’t tell you how many times I’ve been hungover in that airport and gone hungry cause zatarains was the only spot open.

a big tube of toothpaste I'd forgotten in my travel bad, and a couple other items.

I've been flying a lot the past three years, and that was the most inept security checkpoint I've ever encountered.

Same thing happened to me over the weekend in Birmingham. Probably more common than you think.

I travel with a 5oz toothpaste tube. I never take my toiletry bag out and the only time I've been stopped is when my 3oz shaving cream can is laying the wrong way and the scanner shows it looking like a 10" pipe bomb.

I'm scheduling a trip in an out in December currently. Going to get there 3-4 hours early just in case. I'll get a day pass to a club and get nice and drunk

It seems 2 hours is sufficient according to the article in the OP.

Hopefully this gets worked out before then because I'm coming the two weekends before MG

the new short term & long term garages are connected to the terminal. they are so much better than the old garages

from the short term garage you are inside terminal in like two minutes

getting there at 5:00 for a 7:00 flight. I don't know anyone who has ever done that.

Unless you are flying out of small airports like BR, two hours in advance is the normal recommendation. Why be stressed if you hit a TSA delay?

C'mon man; we are supposed to be getting up in arms about these unreasonable delays.

I think the issues at security and behind it are due to the shared-service nature of all three concourses vs. the separate ones before.

Previously, you could easily staff security and restaurants because you knew the times and number of flights you’d see in your concourse. Now, that’s a crapshoot. They’ll figure it out...hopefully.

"Old MSY" struggled with TSA staffing... that was one of the reasons they went to this one-entry model. Under the old model, you would have, for example, crazy lines at B, but C was wide open, etc.

The number of flights, travelers, etc, hasn't changed in a week. So you would think, ok, last Sunday, we had 7 lines open across 3 concourses, so we need to have enough workers for 7 lines today as well.

But I'm guessing the cheapskates at the TSA are trying to get by with 5 sets.

This whole "let's have all these lines together so we can open and close them quickly as needed" only works if you have enough staff on shift to open as many lines as you need.
