But I'm guessing the cheapskates at the TSA are trying to get by with 5 sets.
This whole "let's have all these lines together so we can open and close them quickly as needed" only works if you have enough staff on shift to open as many lines as you need.
Government work at it's finest. What a shitshow.

I've been in and out of MSY a lot over the past few years but I've never seen lines like that. That's some serious computer and personnel issues right there.
I'm flying out Saturday evening around 6pm, was already planning on getting there around 3pm to have a nice, long meal and familiarize myself with the new place.
How were the lines for TSA Pre-Check?

Folks whose IQ was over 80 could have figured that building a dedicated road for uber/lyft/taxi to enter and exit may have been needed.
How anyone could look at that setup and not have a separate entrance/exit for the arrivals side is mind-boggling. They can still have the roadway connecting them but what in the bleeding frick were they thinking trying to shoehorn all that traffic through one route with a fricking traffic circle in the middle of it?

that's what happens when you have a government monopoly controlling the show.

Law said he knew things weren’t quite right when he returned his rental car to the airport around 5 a.m., only to find the computer system was down — the start of what was far from a good first impression of the new airport.
That's the one thing that didn't change!!! If the computer system at the rental car agency screwed up, that's on his rental car company... and they didn't change anything as they are still next to the old terminal.

The traffic was so bad it's like they built the airport without planning how people would access it from I-10.
That's literally exactly what they did.
There's nothing more Louisiana than building something brand new and awesome, but not planning for any of the surrounding infrastructure to support it.

So the problems seem to be:
1) People cutting in the security lines
2) People cutting in the taxi lines
3) People cutting in the Uber/Lyft lines
4) People don't know how to order enough Bloody Mary mix
5) People don't know how to schedule TSA agents / vendor employees
But sure... that's the airport's fault
Meanwhile, I know a lot of people who have complained about the lines, and I know a lot of people who have gone from Loyola/I-10 to sitting at their gate in 35 minutes or less.
I have an 1150 am flight out Friday morning. I plan on arriving at 8 am. It will give the wife (no pics) and I plenty of stress free time, we can walk around and explore the new digs, have a nice breakfast, etc.
They say arrive 2 hours ahead of time for a reason. Even if the TSA line is 1 hour long... still give you an extra hour to check bags and get to your gate.
But the only way they are going to fix these problems is to throw more people at them, at least in the short term. Bring in some off duty NOPD/JPSO/KPD police to help with line control (outside the TSA line and in the Uber/Lyft lines and staging areas). Tell TSA to work 24/7 to get their shite together.

Yup. But like someone said earlier, you had a Republican governor and a Democrat mayor who were more concern with burnishing their national intentions than they were with doing right by the local citizens. Jindal wasn't going to spend money on a project to make a Democrat mayor look good, and Mitch wasn't going to find a toll solution or delay the airport until the roads were ready.

Austin airport still doesn't have free-flowing exit to the freeway.
This is not a defense of MSY and the lack of planning...but just an observation from someone who has spent a great deal of time in airports of all sizes around the US.

JBE has been Governor for 3 years now. He could have built several ramps on that timeframe, especially after raising taxes.
Some of you Jindal haters are probably the same people who blamed things on Bush even when Obama was President for 8 years.

I flew out Wednesday and back Sunday. No crowds, no lines, everything was fine. If you go at rush hour and look at any airport it will look taxed.

It's a 3-4 year project, once they start construction.
Under JBE, they identified funding and let the project.
Signed, someone who is voting for Rispone.

Wrong, they just let out the project this year.
If it was such an important project, the design build could have started in 2016 not 2019.

They started driving pilings in 2016

quote:TSA Pre Check here. Yesterday (Sunday) during the Saints game, it took me 26 minutes to pass through TSA pre-check. The airport is a GD joke. I saw someone post earlier about it not being a traveler friendly airport design. As someone who flies in and out of MSY weekly, this new airport is a tremendous disappointment.
I'm told the pre-check line can be just as long and might be slower since it is where they direct all the wheelchairs, etc.
Who in the hell thought it would be a good idea to merge three terminal check in locations from the old airport into just one in this new airport with no additional equipment or personnel?
Who in the hell thought it would be a good idea to make corridors surrounding the gates even narrower than in the old airport? And, then sticking restaurants, gift shops etc in the middle of the corridors?
Who in the hell thought it would be a good idea to shite on the frequent MSY traveler by removing the parking passes that many of us have used for years?
Whoever is on this airport board should be removed. Thinking of writing a letter to the editor of the newspaper. Who appoints these freaking dumb shits?
Am I pissed? You GD right I am pissed.

Do you have CLEAR? I get it for free with Delta Diamond status and guess I will finally sign up for it after the pre TSA fiasco I faced yesterday.

It is going to cost us another $500 million to fix this mess and if we don't fix it quick we are going to lose a lot of businesses in the greater New Orleans area to other cities whose airports actually work 24/7.

Seems a bit knee jerk, but you seem to travel a lot.
