Like you, I wear suits consistently for work. I'd rather not have to but I understand the need for them and the message they convey.
I've worked with too many well dressed idiots and or shite people to care about what message they convey.

I went to an outdoor day wedding in June. frick wearing a suit.
Linen suits exist for this reason.

Not sure the younger generation even owns a suit. Outside of black tie events, it's just about been phased out.
I have a navy, black, and gray suit. Covered all my bases for the few times a year it could be necessary. My blazer game on the other hand is pretty strong, khakis and jeans friendly depending on the occasion.

I went to one wedding that I was surprised to be invited to where 80% of the attendees were wearing PFGs, camo, or ball caps (or some combination) during the ceremony. I no longer associate with the happy couple

I'm putting in my will that my attorney attends, takes photos, and then my estate will be divided among the family members that respected me by wearing a black fricking suit or dress.
Not wearing a suit or black is so disrespectful to the deceased.
I should probably put in my will that everyone attending my funeral should be wearing PFG's and crocs and that I want a set of casket nuts. Celebrate my life the way I lived it

If you ever see me in a suit, it's because I'm either dead, serving in a wedding, or I'm a pall bearer. Hopefully I'm cremated and my family can save money instead of wasting it on a suit.

I noticed the same trend, and found it bizarre. It's a strange shift vs cultural norms. I just think it's a respect thing both personally and for the person(s) being honored/remembered.

Went to the funeral for the mother of one of my best baws yesterday
Unfortunately that is me tomorrow. She went with us to Seattle a few weeks ago fro the Saints game and was fine. Passed away in her sleep at 62. Pretty heartbroken.

If a funeral is on a Tuesday during the work day there is usually an understanding that some people may have to dress down a bit

I agree. Unless I'm told not to wear a suit (which I have been, for both a wedding and a funeral) you're damn right I'm rocking a 3 piece suit.

but weddings and funerals are the exception.
in general, i agree with you. However, I have attended many funerals in "work clothes"....jeans and a collared shirt. in my business, i cannot wear a suit very often. I normally am not much of a tie guy. I do have one tie that is a special one. Wore it for my LSU roommate's funeral, and my dads funeral. I will not wear it until i attend my moms funeral.
regarding weddings, first marriage = tie. anything past that = suit but no tie.

Wear whatever you want to my funeral, I won’t give a shite. Not sure if you attended my wedding, but still don’t give a shite.

I can’t imagine not wearing a dark suit to a funeral
When my Daddy passed away, my Mom told us she did not want anyone wearing a lot of dark colors. She wanted light and happy, nothing sad. The girls had to find something other than black to wear. Nothing dreary. She wanted a celebration of his life and not a cry fest. She got what she wanted and it was all lovely.

Someone who shows up in button down and khakis is perfectly acceptable. Even in jeans and a pfg, they came over to share their sentiments for the dead and their family left behind.
Did they cuss and holler and tell dirty jokes in the back? Maybe then, you could be upset. Otherwise shove it up Your arse and just appreciate that they took time out their day to come.

Is it socially acceptable to request that everyone invited to a wedding is strongly encouraged to wear a suit?
Posted on 10/16/19 at 5:14 pm to Peter Venkman
It’s acceptable to request it but what, you gonna send out invitations? Someone sees it in the paper or hears through word of mouth, can’t get a suit together by the end of the day, goes anyway ? What’s wrong with that ?

10000000x this
I am an old school dago from New Orleans. You wear a suit to a wedding and a funeral and the only explanation needed is "fricking because, that's why."
Wife's uncle croaked about ten years ago in Pineville. He was a baptist or some such business and the funeral attendees took turns speaking a few words.
His SON stood and eulogized the man wearing a pair of black denim jeans and a #3 Dale Earnhardt long sleeve tee shirt. Wore all black in mourning I suppose.
