yesterday

was a Tuesday. Most people don't wear suits to work. Why should they have to go home and change if they're just paying their respects.

I wear a suit a lot, so I would wear a suit to a funeral or wedding. I don't get the gripe.

One thing I really liked in France is that if you show up dressed like a slob they will turn your arse away at the door.

They used to do this at Commander’s. Probably been 20 years though

If you do this now in America, it's a lawsuit.

Wearing a suit in the summer in South Louisiana is not comfortable and the main reason I hate summer weddings. However, when the weather is pleasant, it feels great to put on a nice fitted suit. My opinion would be different if I had to wear one to work everyday.

I'm baffled at this. There are more events to wear a suit to besides weddings and funerals.

I bet Saint Peter Claver goes HAM

I went to an all Spanish Mass at Saint Mary’s College of California last weekend. And I barely understand Spanish but the vibe from the congregation and music has much more flavor than white breads

It makes zero sense for people to spend a lot of money for something they will wear one time. And it especially makes zero sense to buy a suit to get buried in. It ain't like you'll know whether the suit was used or not for the funeral since you'll not be attending except in body only.

That one time Caribbean Vacay of sea diving...you gonna buy a full set of scuba gear for it? And the boat to arrive on location too? Oh gee, sad and pathetic.

You can always rent a suit to be buried in.

I've never known a bride, groom, or corpse that complained that a guest dressed down.

I keep thinking about this thread and how sorry I feel for the folks who put more stock in what attendees wear than the fact that they cared enough to attend.

I went to a night wedding recently for a relative. All those folks on our side were in their suits or sports coats with ties. The other side had some good old country boy friends who were not dressed up. They attended both the wedding and the reception. By the time the reception got underway, many of the suit people got rid of the coats and ties and everyone together had a rip roaring time. People's attire affected nothing. Zero. Nada. The bride and groom were thrilled with the attendance and how much fun everything was for them and everyone else.

I'm putting in my will that my attorney attends, takes photos, and then my estate will be divided among the family members that respected me by wearing a black fricking suit or dress.

Not wearing a suit or black is so disrespectful to the deceased.

The lack of men wearing powdered wigs and frilly silk/lace cuffs and collars in formal situations is sad!

Went to the funeral for the mother of one of my best baws yesterday and of the 100 or so in attendance only maybe 5 suits

Lots of guys wearing just a polo and khakis. sad.

So they left work or went after work and were dressed in their work clothes? Most people don't wear suits to work.

Although, if I had a funeral to go to, I would wear the pants and a dress shirt and bring the jacket and tie in the car.

I wear a suit to the church service part of a wedding but change into casual clothes for the reception.

Funerals wear a suit, or at least khakis and a sport coat

Can't say that I've noticed a lack or proper attire at either of those events.

And I'm not even talking about having on a suit to get to have a nice dinner. Just at least some nice jeans, a good pair of shoes and a button down.

I was at a nice steak house last week in the US and a ~20+ year old had on a white under shirt at dinner...I mean come on, show a little class.

I don’t wear suits to weddings or funerals. Then again, I don’t go to weddings or funerals.
