I think there is very little doubt that he is right ...eventually. The idea may be a bit too early.

But, I do believe that it is the future.

He is not a nut. He is just an early adopter / pioneer.

The idea that poor people will be irresponsible with their money and squander it seems to be a biased stereotype rather than a truth.

It’s not that poor people are always irresponsible although one could argue that irresponsible decision making can lead to poverty. It’s that people who are given money that they didn’t earn are usually less responsible with that money than they would be if they had worked to earn it.

People that wish to offer a thousand dollars are greedy and uncaring for families with children. This is not a livable amount and those that support such a low amount side with the rich.

pretend problems don't exist?

you mean like when mentally ill homosexuals are grooming children for sexual abuse but "compassionate progressives" refuse to speak up about it for fear of being called bigots?

What's preventing these people in "endangered" industries from getting training or assistance in other jobs?

Just curious, you seem to be insinuating these people will starve without government intervention. Why?

The extreme bigotry of low expectation is why I can never take a prog seriously.

McKinsey predicts that by 2030, jobs like dishwashers, equipment operators, food-preparation workers, general mechanics and truck drivers in America will witness a 31% decrease in employment due to automation.
So there will be no other jobs they can take? That demonstrates a significant lack of imagination. Yang is a boob.

If UBI fully replaced all other forms of government handouts, and those were abolished, it might be cheaper to do.

Most of it would be done by computer and you wouldn't need armies of means testers.

But dumping the current system is never going to happen. So UBI shouldn't either.

You don’t think that a level of automation that significant would bring millions of new jobs with it? Who fills ATM machines, services digital kiosks, or writes software for gps guidance systems?

This theoretical argument could have been made at any point in world history, yet here we are with more jobs than ever.

Liberals tell illegals that America is the land of opportunity with boundless wealth for those willing to work. Then they tell their countrymen that we are an oppressive oligarchy that owes them something for nothing.

100% agree with the technology “data ownage” aspect of things. We could be “enslaved” by the data we produce, be it politics, relationships, money etc. We are all slugs leaving a moist trail of data wherever we go.

I also toy with the idea of minimum monthly payment but $1000 will not alleviate a person who can’t find a job. Need a different option.

You’re such a hack

If what you are saying is true then you should be staunchly for the wall or similar measures to curb border crossings. If automation is around the corner, we don’t need a bunch of uneducated, unskilled dependents right??

Agree, bm. Productive people are going to 'pay' for their problematic brethren in some way, shape or form regardless. Heartless Mother Nature has always culled the less-productive people, but if civil society chooses to remove all limits on the weak in society...don't think the increases in those folk won't have consequences which 'unintended', and counter to civil societies' desired compassionate end.

The only option to an ultimate societal degradation/crash and burn would be for society to remove Individual Rights/Freedom for those who choose action harmful to their brethren. Think DWI. Deep subject there; ultimately subjective. "Animal Farm"...in effect.

I like Yang, but his talents are not sufficient to assume the broad spectrum which being POTUS requires. There are times when a POTUS has to 'pull the trigger'; humans are not all good, and their action oft times are intolerable. People like him should be at the fore of future societal modeling. Trump should get him on board.
