Why do married couples swing?

Last night my friend had his birthday celebration at a club in Buckhead. I had suspicions that he and his wife were swingers, and they were confirmed when he was grinding and making out with other girls on the dance floor while she was also grinding on other girls. Towards the end of the night she was upset because he wasn’t paying her any attention. I couldn’t help but facepalm.
Why do couples swing? It really doesn’t make sense and isn’t healthy.

Well... at the end of the day, we aren't meant to be monogamous, especially males. Look at all of the other animal species, they have multiple partners. We created this nuclear family thing -- so it's frowned upon to step out on someone.
So people "swing" to fulfill that urge and they still come back to their significant other.

It’s pretty freaking natural to fantasize about someone who isn’t your significant other. They just turn off the jealousy factor so that they can act on it.
Not for me though. I’m too possessive. If Mrs. Gar wants to get dicked down by some other dude she’s going to have to do it behind my back like an old school respectable lady.

Sexual preference. Some people love each other and are satisfied but want to experience other things together.
