I seent it at TSA.

Lady rolls up in wheelchair, bypassing the line. She leaps out of the chair and walks through. Then she heads to her gate like a speed walker.

This was a Southwest flight so no assigned seats so you can imagine what the frequent flyer guys were thinking when the 20 wheelchairs come up at once! And they were getting steamed cause now the A lineup is starting to start to rustle a bit too. I'm in B so I'm sitting watching all this take place with my wife (no pics) and we're trying to stay calm too because we're in seats facing the walk up aisle! Get this! Now the 3 guys are wrestling, the sammich woman is swinging at the stroller and then the rest of the wheelchair people all get up and start running for the gate! Running like healthy people that are mostly overweight, but light trotting you could say. All this effort to get on a plane first! What seemed like 3 minutes was probably 40 seconds, when finally a security team comes busting through the melee and chair sprawl and yells open the door get on the floor, everybody do the dinosaur.

You get what you desearve for flying SW.

Not worse than all the slick-sleeved E-1s and E-2s that wear their ACUs to try to get bumped to first class

I like being one of the last frickers to board.

I get that, but I've gotten screwed before by not having any place near me for carry on.

Sitting on row 12, but having to place your carry on row 38 sucks

Well I’ve certainly never encountered this on private flights.

You should fly commercial every 5 or 6 years. It really helps you to appreciate how much the common folk have to deal with.

The answer is FOLO. First On Last Off. If you need extra time to get on the plane then you should need extra time to get off the plane. They should get off the plane last.

The number of early boarders would drop by 80%.

Never understood the need to get on first (except southwest air). I prefer to get on last. They arrive to parties 30 min early too?

Depends.

If you have checked baggage and a seat assignment, getting on late makes sense because you don’t need space in the overhead bin and your seat is reserved. If you have carry on baggage (like I always do) then getting on early makes sense to ensure that you can put your baggage right above you.

Obviously (as you mentioned) getting on early for a SW flight is good no matter what.

You get on early so you can get overhead storage. But more importantly so you can recline with your complimentary tarmac vodka tonic and high brow the mouth breathers in coach as they scurry past.

One has to be mentally disabled to even want to get on a fricking plane early.

If you fly very much, you should realize the trick is to be the last person to board and the first person to deplane.

Decent plan unless you have carry-on bags for the overhead bin.....then off to the cargo hold your carry-on bag goes. Then you get the pleasure of waiting sometimes an extra 30 minutes at that damn luggage carousel for that same bag.

some people have issues with their legs that make it impossible to stand for extended periods of time yet can function and move around normally otherwise ya know.

i also would need a wheel chair to sit in and get around right up until the hours of waiting was over and i could just walk to get on the plane and in my seat.

but i also dont use handicap parking or take advantage of any disability perks because of it as "some" people go out of their way to do it seems so ya i see your point but you dont know what the guys true issue was or if he really had one

I dont know why people want to be on the plane first anyway. I typically dont board when the call my section. I want until the very end then get on the plane. I want to spend less time in that small cramped space, not more time.

I tavel a LOT and normally business class yet will damn near make them call me before walking on the plane.

I just have no need to spend 30 extra min siting in a cigar shaped fart tube.

In the airline industry that is known as "The Miracle of Flight".

Before the flight they were crippled, unable to walk; after the flight they can run a marathon.

was at LAX heading back to NOLA a few months ago, and I witnessed two fully-healthy sistas check-in to their flights, lift their bags onto the scale, etc...

next thing I know, they are being escorted to the front of the TSA line, one of them in a wheelchair. I just shook my head in disbelief.

I fly a decent amount for work on AA and typically don’t see too many instances of people abusing the early board. But I’ll fly business select on southwest and be A1 and be like the 25th person on the plane. It is insane - most of the people aren’t even in wheel chairs. But idk, if it means that much to them so be it.

Never understood why they don't board row by row, back to front. Everyone gets overhead bin space at your seat.

This is why Sonics are needed in airports.
