School buses are built pretty stout, but obviously no built to withstand falling onto a roadway.

It's a miracle more kids weren't killed or injured.

Panic drivers... just let them hit you. Far less dangerous.

Separate note. I thought ISD was going to be in school detention. I must've been there too much.

That's awful. I'm still not used to how large the Houston area school districts are, but it seems like if you are having to get on the interstate to get to school, it's a little far.

Also, there are so many people who can't drive here. I've been run out of my lane more than a few times. People get on an on ramp and it's just "move out of my way, I'm getting in the lane no matter if you are there or not". There's no trying to time the entrance. Especially when they have 5 cars up each other's arse on the ramp.

If a bus is going to be getting into that craziness, they need seatbelts.

The same thing happened in Huntsville, AL 9 years ago. 4 kids died in that crash.

Furr is kind of off by itself so the attendance zone goes north of south of 10 and east and west of 610.

It also is a high school so the zone is larger.

That bus hit the rail at 40-50 mph. It flew! Big distance between the hole in the rail where that bus stopped. Enough power to flip end over end as well.

Only 5 people on bus. 2 dead and rest still in the hospital. One was not even transported from scene. Has to be beyond horrific for an EMS crew to not transport a child.

Hundreds/thousands of kids die in cars every year with seatbelts. Meanwhile, there's only 10 or less on average per year that die in school bus accidents. Yes, I agree that's 10 too many but the seatbelts wouldn't really do that much good. Especially with small chidren getting caught in them etc

Well kids likely spend 10x more time in a car than a bus, so those stats don't exactly mean anything.

We used to sit in the back of the bus and try to bounce as high as possible when going over the big bumps.

Right. This is like when the Philly train wreck created the "seat belts on trains" discussion. They aren't needed because of the infrequency of accidents.

The real issue here is a school bus being on the interstate.

Isn't that some shite though? where a parent can get a ticket for one kid not buckled up however a school bus driver has no obligation to ensure the 50 kids on the bus have a seatbelt on (from no seat belts even being available).

Just think about 45 7-10 year olds buckled up when the bus gets hit and catches fire.
