Granted I haven’t watched him much the past couple years but I remember him being stiff and unathletic looking. I’m assuming he has improved significantly since he left us?

I think you may have it wrong. Adding sugar (or alcohol) makes it harder to freeze.
There’s a reason why daiquiri places offer “floaters.” You can only make daiquiris so strong before they won’t freeeze (around 15-16%). Add whatever alcohol you want on top to make them stronger
