Looking to buy a magnalite style cast aluminum oval roaster. I've seen a number of brands pop up as magnalite is no longer manufactured. All the brands (mcware, imusa, etc) visually look like they are made in probably the same Chinese factory. That aside, any of these brands are not recommended? I see an 18" IMUSA available locally, and thinking about grabbing it.

More importantly, which size should I go for, 15" or 18"? This will be my primary gumbo and stew pot, along with other things. I currently cook my gumbos in a 10-12 qt stock pot, and would like something at 12qt minimum.

Baldwin Taylor hardware in Old Jefferson sells all the sizes. I got the big one from them.

I would say go for the 18 inch. You might not always need that volume, but it's nice to have when you do.

eBay has vintage ones for sale usually, but they are pricey... around $250.

All of my pots are old Magnalite, but we have bought the McWare as gifts for other people and they have not complained, not that they would even if they had issues.

Good info, Thanks.

Is there a material difference between McWare and IMUSA? I see an 18" IMUSA new for $120 and the McWare 18" is over $200.

my suggestion ... buy a used, in good condition Magnalite Roaster Pan 4269 . Largest size made but not the heaviest, sometimes referred to as a "turkey pan". Between its handles, Length of 20", Height of 6", and a Width of 12 ¼" - 17 quart capacity. $225-$325 on ebay, FB Mktplace, Estate Sales

We sell 2 kinds @ Leroy's Cajun Cookware. The McWare which is distributed out of Mamou and the Almuachef, the newest brand that is distributed out of St. Gabriel. Same exact molds from the same exact Chinese maker. Also the same maker as IMUSA and Alumaware. McWare went up because of so called tariffs so they are about $40 more than the Alumachefs. We have the 11" 13" 15" and 18"

I would think Goodwood Hardware in BR likely has them.

I got a Magnaware roasting pan a couple years ago and it’s held up well so far. Really enjoy using it.

I loved magnalite. In fact, I had the exact one pictured above. Switched to Creuset about 10 years ago and haven't looked back. Yes they are more expensive but they cook more even, hold heat better, clean easier and last forever.

If you can go anywhere and look at them, do that so you can see exactly what size you want.

I have two of them a big turkey roaster and a smaller one. We use them all the time on the stove and in the oven.

The 18" is huge and takes up 2 burners, the 15" is big and can go on 2 burners or 1, I would go with the 15"

I have a Mcware and an OG Magnalite, I can't tell the difference in them.

I inherited a few magnalites and love cooking in the oval roaster. I have enameled cast iron as well (not Le Creuset), but any gravy just comes out better in the magnalite.
The only thing I don't like are the handles that get HOT and are hard to grip with mitts.

This is a completely uninformed opinion but I'd rather buy a vintage Magnalite that was made in Ohio vs a new McWare strictly because I don't trust the chinese metallurgists to not put lead and pot metal in the blast furnace with whatever other metal they use to make the new pots. They're probably all well and fine but I've never been impressed by the quality of anything Chinese and the last thing I want is a chyna pot leaching into the meals I make for my family.

15 years from now y'all gonna be on commercials talking about how IMUSA pots gave y'all LOW T.

Why use cast aluminum instead of cast iron for gumbo making?
