re: Breaking News!!! The capitol building in Baton Rouge is being pressure washed!

The tiny portion of the job we quoted (didn't get the work) had nothing to do with cleaning and was over a million $. Gov't job, 27 stories up, historical building, asbestos everywhere.....it checks pretty much every box in the cost over run chart

I (stupidly) did this last week on a jet burner and damn near ruined my aluminum pot with soot. Had other burners in the shed just was being lazy and figured it was worth experimenting. I was aware that if it was too hot I would melt the pot, so I kept it pretty low and by the time everything was finished cooking, I had 1/8" thick layer of soot more or less engrained into the bottom of the pot. Buy that $50 academy rig and don't look back.

I have a couple Tie Boss pulleys in my backyard for a garden shelf. I remember they were marketing their kayak hoist system super aggressively 2 years ago when I purchased. I also remember them being pretty pricy but I looked past that as they are Made in America.
Having said that, there are probably 30 different brands available on amazon or you can take a trip to the hardware store to get some pulleys and 1/4" rope and DIY in an hour or so. I don't have a kayak so no real help. I will say that I converted the garden shelf into a tie boss block and tackle (weighed 300ish lbs when full of potted plants) and it still looks/works like the day I bought it.

Went to LSU with Kenta. Great dude and very happy to see that his career is taking off in the manner that he deserves. Tamaki Den got its 2nd Michelin guide recommendation last year. The Kamo's are BR raised but with a heavy Japanese upbringing, they would offer to tour guide our group of friends on a 2 week Japan ski trip every winter. Still bummed I never went. Would recommend any sushi lovers making the trip to Denver to check his spot out.

re: Penny Stock Millionaires
Posted by MrBobDobalina on 3/11/26 at 9:18 am to FAT SEXY
I know of one poster on here that uses E*TRADE that was a penny millionaire for a day or 3 when the AT penny boom of early 21 was in full force. Takes a certain type of gambler to put $10k or (much) more into the investing equivalent of scratch offs. Like most of us he didn't sell the top, but was in plenty early enough to still make a killing
re: PSA- Stay clear of Stihl and ACE Hardware
Posted by MrBobDobalina on 3/10/26 at 11:15 am to greygoose
Stihl 2-stroke oil was the gold standard for a long time. It was formulated by Castrol and was blended and packaged by Omni in Shreveport. I remember probably 6-8 years ago they had a bad batch go out that would seperate and was eating saws that sat up for a few months, so I switched to Klotz since I was already running it in my CR250. The equipment is "stihl" top notch but I no longer use their premix in my saws. I think another issue was a lot of people using the suggested 50:1 and saws running hot. I've always been closer to 40:1 or even 32:1 as I'd rather foul a plug than lock up an engine, and when my saw is running I run it hot enough to blow any fouling out anyways.
OP I don't even think I touched on your post I just felt like ranting. Stihl equipment is top-tier, stihl oil is mid-tier, water in the gas concerns neither of these things. You can always take the easy way out and buy a gallon of TOPFUEL that can sit on the shelf for a year without degrading too bad.

+1 for Capital City but I've also only used them for smaller repairs not a whole swap. I'm sure that's normal scope of work for them though

re: Gas Line for 22kw Generac - Certain Length of Straight Run Required?
Posted by MrBobDobalina on 3/2/26 at 9:58 am to Seven Costanza
Plumber is correct in what he said, but it is almost never necessary for residential generators. For the large hospital or shopping center generators, they need 8-10 feet of pipe (normally 2x actual pipe size) for the start-up. The demand when those behemoths fire up is staggering and they can suck the line empty, choke out and will not run without having this "tank" of gas to fire-up. I've never seen/heard of a residential sized generator that needed the oversized pipe for start-up.
re: What should I expect to pay to have a 40 Gal gas hot water heater installed?

That was so he could pay his plumber buddy $2k and still keep $2500 for himself

re: Recommendations for Water Heater installers, Baton Rouge
Posted by MrBobDobalina on 2/9/26 at 8:28 am to Enadious
We used Louis Mechanical when we switched to a tankless a few years ago. I had a tank in the attic and made the swap. I think ours is a Navien. They came out to flush it a year or two after the install. I think swapping is pretty straight forward if you already have gas.
