I just noticed today that in public, I see maybe 30%, maybe even 40%, of people with tattoos. In my career at several different company white collar offices with engineers, lawyers, HR, finance, accountants, marketing, etc., I have never 1 time, not once, seen someone with tattoos. Most of these jobs people were allowed to wear polos, so their elbow down was completely visible. Only 1 job did I have to wear dress shirt and slacks. What does that say if 30-40% of the public has visible tattoos, but 0% in white collar offices in my experience have them. This is a warning if younger people are wanting a tattoo. It kills your job and career prospects or at least brings your chances down some. You may read on Reddit that it doesn't, but it absolutely does to old school managers.

People that are thinking of getting tattoos that want a white collar job. This is relaying to them that it will effect your job chances. Not every hiring boss, but I'd venture a good amount will judge it.

I have a colleague at work that was telling me about his nephew getting one of those sleeve tattoos. He told his nephew,”Congratulations you will always have a job with your name on your work shirt. “

Funny thing is, unless everyone you work with is 60+, I bet at minimum 20% are inked. Key is “visible”.

I’ve been in Disney since Friday, I’ve seen some nasty fat women covered with the worst tattoos I’ve ever seen…..
Side note: I would say at least 50% of the people here would be considered obese with their BMI….

I work in engineering. A lot of people I work with have tattoos. Dude that sits across from me has full sleeves. He's an old Coastie. My boss has tattoos, the owner of our company has tattoos.

I have none. Most are absolutely trashy. I’m mid 40s and post college have worked white collar jobs. Tattoos have increased in the office. I see teachers with many visible as well. The tolerance and judgement will simply change as younger people who have different views do the hiring.
Also I’d add the jobs with your name on your shirt are increasingly in demand, pay well and are the least likely to be AI’d out of existence. (Speaking of trades, not Popeyes)

I think that’s the point chief…they don’t want to work white collar jobs and they are expressing that to you.

It tell my sons that the problem with tats are they’re more or less permanent.
Remember when you thought Paw Patrol was the coolest thing ever? How awesome would it be now if you had them tattooed on your arm?

Old school managers are dying off. Tattoo managers are taking over. Old man

I agree with you OP. Our once great American culture has become riddled with elements of trash that should not be accepted. Tattoos being one of many examples. We need to treat these people like trash again and enforce greater social qualities again

I would not hire someone if I knew they had a tattoo.
Simply a sign of someone who makes bad decisions.
