The Food and Drug Administration plans to propose labeling this fall for the front of food and drink packages to help Americans make healthier choices to address exploding obesity rates, years after other countries took similar action.

Nearly 20 percent of U.S. children are obese, nearly four times the rate in the 1970s before the proliferation of ultra-processed food, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Several studies have identified these industrially produced, hyper-palatable foods as risk factors for chronic diseases shortening life spans in the United States.

I just look at the actual numbers. They're already on the label and more useful.

Gotta dumb down the current labeling for idiots who think sugary cereal bars are healthy.

LOL at saturated fat being "bad"

Not for the laymen… anecdotally have you ever seen a boomer who grew up looking at grams of fat exclusively decide that something with 30+ grams of sugar was healthy because of was “fat free”? I have

It’s sad but our population is so dumb that I actually encourage this by the USDA. Obesity and complications from it are huge anchors on our economy.
Similar to warning labels on cigarettes and the payment calculator on credit card statements. Those with personal responsibility don’t need it but the ignorant among us need all the help they can get for daddy government to tell them that this is bad for you.

Same. It can’t hurt. People smart enough to read the labels can still do it, but this will help the others.

Why worry? Government will pay for your dialysis, pay to cut off your foot, pay for the wheel chair, etc.

Why?
Why cant we trust natural selection to take care of business instead of building a nanny state?
Let them die.

Damnit. As a small government Conservative I hate this. As a citizen of this country I think it's needed. I don't need this conflict on a Saturday morning.

High fructose corn syrup and partially hydrogenated corn oil should be illegal
Just use regular cane sugar. Its not great for you but much better than HFCS
Ban ethanol gas too
frick the corn mafia

Unfortunately our tax dollars and the fed money printer are paying for their long slow death spirals though.

Because we all pay for healthcare for others, directly and indirectly.
Most other countries do this. Chile’s warning labels are a little extreme, similar to tobacco warnings.

Colors is more easier and make me do healthy choices

It is why I am now finding all the “let them smoke, drink, and eat whatever they want” posts to be so damn annoying at this point.
Freedom implies the right to act as you wish, but you should also suffer the outcome of those choices.
We don’t allow for that. We subsidize the shitty choices people make and prevent the “teaching” that comes along with such choices.

What they need to do is what the UK did and require all nutrition labels to be “per 100g” instead of some vague made up serving.

These people need to think about the current landscape in America. This won’t help fat asses make better choices, all this is going to do is have fat asses complaining that the fda is targeting them for being fat and food shaming them
