Making it more like WIC would probably make people riot

I've always said I think it should be just like WIC, but you're totally right. And sadly, the bleeding hearts think it is inhumane to restrict what can be bought on SNAP.

So dumb,

I'm cool with it.

As long as I still get to make the choice - just like cigarettes. I don't smoke and think it's a nasty habit, BTW.

Yep. People love to poo poo school lunch programs for serving children items like pizza, burgers, nuggets, etc. Meanwhile, same people are feeding their kids Hot Cheetos as dinner, if they get anything at all.

Mind you, the federal meal program has regulations limiting fat, sodium, grains, calories, etc. which means the pizza or nuggets they serve are usually much healthier versions compared to store bought.

Anyway, here's a fun tidbit about SNAP:

A major part of it. Genetics plays a role in food addiction
One can overcome genetics. Both of my parents were very obese and my sister is as well. My dad turned his issues around in his 50s with exercise and calorie restriction. I've gotten to 40 lbs overweight in the past but have corrected that with calorie restriction and distance running. I don't need government to to hold my hand, I know why I gained weight and it was all my fault and in my control.

You are so right, which is why, in the past, the percentage of obese individuals was always exceptionally high and has remained constant throughout human history.

Sarcasm aside, the percentage of Americans with alcohol use disorder is ~10%.

Even if we assume that 100% of that 10% is due to genetic causes, it still doesn’t correlate.

It is estimated that 60-70% of Americans are overweight or obese.

That isn’t due to genetics related to addiction. It is majority due to poor levels of activity and extremely poor nutritional choices.

Why? Cheapest “food” is all carbs and heavily processed.

This is just not reality. A couple pounds of chicken breast costs less than a frozen pizza. Vegetables to make a fresh salad with cost less than a bag of chips or a box of macaroni and cheese. Saying…but the healthy food is so much more expensive!!!…is bullshite perpetuated by fat people as an excuse for being fat.

Saw my second note? Poor people are dumb too.

I'm for healthy eating but each person's dietary needs may differ so we should not decide what individuals may purchase with their SNAP.

There isn’t a single medical condition that REQUIRES the intake of 50% of the items on the “items most commonly purchased with food stamps” list posted above.

Not one.

soft drinks and Doritos should not be allowed to be purchased on food stamps. Neither of those are a dietary need.

WIC is tailored to the person’s “needs.” The USDA employs many nutritionists that can help each family come up with a plan for healthier eating.

Cheetos & Kool aid jammers shouldn’t be allowed.

Soft drinks, bag snacks, frozen snacks, ice cream, cookies, frozen pizza, coffee, muffins.

Not a single medical condition or dietary condition exists that requires any one of those.

Garbage food tastes better and is easier than healthy food. Why cook chicken breast when you could have a frozen pizza or easy mac

To be not fat you more or less have to eat miserable things like vegetables and lean cuts of meat and take the time to cook them yourself instead of things that are engineered to taste good and be easy to consume

That is not true. Many have undiagnosed health issues and mental conditions.
