You are so right.

The obesity epidemic is because of a massive increase in genetic conditions.

Not for the laymen… anecdotally have you ever seen a boomer who grew up looking at grams of fat exclusively decide that something with 30+ grams of sugar was healthy because of was “fat free”? I have

It’s like seeing someone order crappy food, then getting a Diet Coke to wash it down.

IMHO putting these labels on food won’t slow down whoever is going to buy them. They’re still going to buy it.

There’s no benevolent reasoning, those companies don’t care about your health.

They’re putting these labels on to protect themselves from lawsuits from morbidly obese people who plead ignorance.

And also to help the obesity epidemic, USDA really needs to look at the food stamp program.

the only bad part is that it won't make a dent. people have it too good in this country. suffering sucks but it also makes us act better. it's a conundrum.

Like that's going to do anything. More worthless regulation. The people who care about what they eat already know about this. Actually, everyone knows what's crap and what isn't. It's not a mystery. Most simply don't care.

Insane to me that in the US the poorer you are the more likely it is that you and your children are obese.

At least it's not another 250 or so calories on top. Over time it adds up.

One of the biggest issues.

We have a massive obesity epidemic amongst those on food stamps and government subsidies.

The corporations love food stamps though. They would lose too much money if it was ever looked at and made into a health conscious program.

I just look at the actual numbers. They're already on the label and more useful.

They are but it is my understanding, they can put 0 if something is .999. I would like to see the numbers to 2 decimal places.

Why? Cheapest “food” is all carbs and heavily processed. Most poor people aren’t smart either

LOL at saturated fat being "bad"

That is the problem. FDA told us margarine was good and butter was bad and so on.

It is a bigger part of the obesity problem than food manufacturers.

I can only speak anecdotally, but from what I see with middle school kids and Flamin’ Hot ________ chips, you could make the entire packaging a warning label and it wouldn’t matter.

I know the reason behind it, it's still amazing to me. Has there ever been another time in history where this was the case?

The average person doesn't understand the numbers. They have no idea what number represents low, medium, or high in any category.

This color coding is a decent idea. Someone may pick up that box of Ding Dongs and see 8 red boxes, maybe will make them think twice.

A major part of it. Genetics plays a role in food addiction the same as it does drugs and alcohol.

Some will develop health issues regardless of how they eat.
