I joined it, thinking it would be a good thing overall (neighborhood watch, lost pets, etc.) and I live in a nice area- but it encompasses several other regions and it seems like the only posts I ever see are people asking for money. Anyone else find this to be the case?

I don’t have nextdoor but if you’re handing out money, I’ll take as much as you care to give.

TIA

I use it, but with a fake name and just to frick with people. The wine-o stay at home wives that post and comment on there are ridiculously easy to get riled up

I have it, but don't really use it. I like to get on every few months and read drama in different neighborhoods.

I use occasionally when I’m looking for a local contractor- but there’s a lot of bitching about dog poop. So I use it then delete it

I have it, but only use it when I need to see what’s going on with a specific event (I.e., Christmas ideas around Christmas time; read about summer camps, needed a new landscaper..). Then I delete the app so I don’t get sucked into the BS, because it can be entertaining.

If you use it, you have to narrow down to your neighborhood, and those immediately around it. Also have to check what type of notifications you want to see. There are some things that you can adjust to determine what you see in your home page, but I never messed with it since I use it sparingly.

I have the app but I wouldn’t say I “use” it. As others have said good for entertainment now and then. Always fun to read the in incessant bitching around any holidays involving fireworks.

It started out as a useful tool, but has devolved into ridiculousness like all social media. The amount of stupidity, politics and please dont let your dog poop in my yard posts make it unbearable. I keep it for emergency type issues like when our Boykin got out during a storm.

It's like Facebook for old people and childless cat ladies who see criminals hiding under their porch and want to know what's going on every time they hear a siren go by.

The ND app is a great tool to notify you of all the mentally ill people around you.

My wife joined the one we're on now when we moved East out of the city. I stayed on the old one from when we lived in Midtown Memphis. Holy shite the differences in the posts and camera footage posted over the last 4 years. The problems and issues our neighbors face in the suburbs versus those of the inner city are literally first world v. third world.

I'm a content moderator for Nextdoor. The mean shite neighbors say to each other is hilarious. I have no idea why they invited a Karen-hating chaos agent to moderate because I vote to keep almost every reported post.

Yep. People three towns over asking for money or some other bullshite. It might be worse than Facebook but then again, I don't have Facebook so can't really say.

You can narrow it down to just your neighborhood.

Used to have fun trolling my Austin neighbors during Covid and BLM movements.

Mostly tho, it’s people that don’t know how to take care of their pets constantly want people to help them look for their pet or the head Karen wondering why people aren’t as tidy as her or telling people to SLOW DOWN on the streets.

I've been on it a while, but now have all notices turned off. It's kind of become trash around here. Some folks think it is a form of Facebook with their LAMPs. Others are looking for free stuff or trying to scam people.

It's a shame because it is useful in some ways, but the crap is overtaking the usefulness. You do get a better idea of the crime in your immediate area, level of coyote infestation, and any lost pets.
