My issue with the movie “The Santa Claus(e)”

In the movie, Santa actually does exist the whole time. Kids were getting presents from “Santa” the whole time.
So either the parents bought them and Santa didn’t do shite, or the parents didn’t buy them, Santa was putting them under the tree the whole time, and the parents are like, “well I guess these presents just appeared.”

Interesting thoughts this early.
As an adult there are parts I now appreciate that I didn’t as a kid.
The shrink joke.
The reference to Osso Buck (had no clue what that was as a kid).
And others.

If only we had a movie board.

yeah this seemingly occurs in lots of "santa is real" movies. i feel like in elf, the adults don't believe, either, even though santa is real.
the main explanation that i go with is that it's magic and part of the magic is that it actually occurs and the parents/adults think they are responsible or don't even realize what is happening.

Watched this with my son last year (he was 3, almost 4) and one thing I never thought of is that movies like these, while great, potentially introduce the whole "Santa isn't real" thing to kids a lot sooner than they would otherwise organically hear it. So I wasn't a fan of that. I don't think he paid it much mind though, and he loved the movie (and the second one too).

That thought never crossed my mind and is a great plot hole in so many Christmas movies that involve Santa. Maybe, dad just assumed mom always bought them, and mom assumed dad did and no one ever addressed it?
In my house if it happened, I would just assume my wife bought the presents. Of course, we'd figure it out because she would give me shite for getting the kids a gift and not telling her. She already thinks we buy too many gifts; even though she is the one that does all of the shopping.

yeah I've always had this thought on these movies and people not believing....
sure you could argue that maybe the parents don't remember certain things they bought but in Santa Clause he brings a fricking canoe in. "hey babe uhhh did you buy Dylan a canoe? Nope."

The parents are all so strung out on drugs and self absorbed they don’t even notice the extra gifts.

Isn’t that kind of the point? To try and keep Santa going tor kids in a world where they are told he doesn’t exist as soon as they get to school?
I was always under the impression that the purpose of a Christmas movie was to reinforce the belief in Santa Claus to help parents keep it going for as long as possible

Doesn't this apply to literally every movie in which Santa is real (but otherwise set in the real world)?
You can pull on that thread in a LOT of movies.

My wife made a similar argument to me when I suggested we show our kids The Santa Clause. I thought it was a good point, but then I thought that it really shortens the window to show it to kids; late enough to where the idea of Santa not being real has been introduced but early enough that they still believe.
Also, in regards to this movie, think of all the people spelling Santa Claus incorrectly due to the popularity of all of these products.

unfortunately, for any Santa movie to be real you have to accept the premise he's literally as powerful as God, which is hard to grasp.

i believe it was mentioned santa always leaves you a gift so they arent all from your parents, or something along those lines.
i think bernard was answering the kids questions in santa clause 1 when it was mentioned

It’s plausible.
Santa just brings ONE thing, but parents buy so much shite they forget and only the kid knows that gift is from Santa.

I might do this next year to just screw with the wife. Wait for her to go to bed and put out an extra present for each kid, and then deny, deny, deny
