Anyone complaining I've always shown my phone. Never used paper copies.
Also I treat cops like a necessary evil. They aren't your friend so don't act like they want to help you.

What kind of fly by night, lowest bidder insurance policy do you have where you can’t pull it up in the app or online? I wouldn’t want to turn my phone over to anyone, but if the option was towed car or show him my screen I’ll take my chances w the unlocked phone over the hassle and costs of a towed car.
Also, what kind of a-hole were you that the cop went straight to I’ll have your car towed?

I’d love to see law enforcement go to a more real-time model of being able to access a database.
Would be curious to know if they could use the same technology to scan for stolen cars/plates to also scan for uninsured cars

It's 2024 every insurance agency has an app or a website. Why didn't you get an image of your virtual card for the officer?

I don't think MS cops can check to see if you have insurance.
I got pulled over for speeding in a small MS Delta town & the cop didn't have any tickets to fill out. He made me wait for another cop to bring him a ticket to give me. I was like really you're going to make me wait on some tickets to be delivered.

It’s discretionary whether they tow or not. I got one in about 3 minutes on my phone when I didn’t have the new one with me one day. Did it without the app on my phone too. It’s a pain to keep up with but not as bad as an Inspection Sticker!

Why do so many dolts use "ran" and "run" incorrectly?

The car insurance companies send policy cancellations to the DMV on a monthly basis. The state LLETS network has the info in it. Anytime a plate is run part of the return includes that vehicles insurance status.
Even if the officer doesn’t have a mobile device, dispatch can relay via radio.

Cop ran the tag and found out that the insurance was fine.
Any reputable police agency would do this, but the ones with a budget dependent on fines and fees would be the one to tow and seize the car for going one mile per hour over the limit.

I knew that they could tow, but I hear frequent complaints that they rarely enforce it.
Did your car actually get towed? You implied that it was, but you never said so affirmatively.

I got pulled over in my company car for coasting through a stop sign and showed the cop my paper ins card from the fleet company. He called in the plate and said it was coming back with no insurance. I said bruh, it's got a million dollar policy on it. We have over 1,000 cars in the fleet nationwide, and the car was like 3 months old at the time. He agreed there was no way it doesn't have insurance and let me go with a warning. It was just strange, I could hear dispatch telling him over the mic that it came back uninsured. So, moral of the story their computer system isn't always right.

And this is why I still have a paper insurance card in my car.
If I get pulled over in Pickle frick, Arkansas for my car coming too close to the the white line - I can promise you that guy doesn't give two fricks about your app.

This is exactly how it’s done now and why. Welcome to 2024

Glad the cop did his job and took a car without insurance off the road
After you’ve been hit by two uninsured drivers you’ll get it

Why would you not have a copy of your current insurance card on your phone?

One in my wallet, one in my glove box and digital on my phone.
Man, people make life so much harder than it needs to be then wonder why the gov't locks them inside during a pandemic.

I am not handing my unlocked phone to an officer if at all possible.
Typically, they take a picture with their phone of your card once you pull it up on your phone.
