The writing was on the wall with their biggest customer passing away earlier this month

Not really. Walk one door over to a Texas Roadhouse or whatever and it’s packed.

So what will companies like Darden do with these restaurants

Metairie losing its location was a death knell for good seafood in the NOLA area.
I don't care what your mom says, you'd better keep wearing that helmet.

I’ve never actually eaten in one.

When I was a kid, say 7-17, during the 1980s..Red Lobster was a nice restaurant. Now it’s a shithole.
Can be said for multiple chain restaurants.

Surprised they lasted this long

Look… RL sucks, but in desperate times in the Midwest or West Texas 20 years ago I may have been in a couple.
At some point there was a bargain involved. At $50 dollars a head, ain’t no fuggin way.
I don’t know if it’s a function of inflation or poor business strategy, but either way, that’s not going to work.
No worries for me. I’m back in ‘ew Orleans, and RL would not break the top 1,000 restaurants. That’s why we don’t have one.

Oh no, where will people who talk on speaker phone in public go out to eat now?

I thought they were part of Darden. Guess they go sold.
Darden sold it to golden gate capital around 10 years ago. They later sold it to some Asian company (food supplier I think), but first golden gate separated the real estate red lobster owned and sold it off.

They will be the first of many, folks simply don't have the spending power that they did just a few years ago.

Alternative explanation: red lobster is awful
McDonald's is awful yet they're usually the busiest place out of all the fast food joints.

They should franchise a cheddar biscuit restaurant instead

People who can’t find anything they’re willing to eat at Red Lobster, Olive Garden, etc., are just being unreasonable.
That’s a cute thought, but in 90% of the country people can find better places, both chain and local places, that are better for the same price. And we don’t have to eat around trash.

Eh...At this point they all taste the same. They must all get their burger meat from the same supplier because the last time I ate whataburger, Sonic, or BK I could've sworn it tasted the same as McDonald's.

Tired of hearing that. Yet every single airport, hotel occupancy, festivals, concerts and restaurants are packed
We went to Red Lobster last fall- kid was on a date and we had a gift card. We sat next to trashy drunks and waited forever for our biscuits. Ended up getting free drinks, so we tipped the bartender the balance of the GC to get rid of it.
People aren’t spending their money at Chili’s, Red Lobsters and Applebee’s of the world anymore. When we go out to eat, which is admittedly less frequent than it used to be, we pick better quality that are usually local.
Our travel budget hasn’t changed, our food budget has and the bar has been raised.

There was a time when Red Lobster was a good place to go for seafood (unless you were near the coast). Many years ago, they had numerous fish choices and good menu items. But that was many years ago. It's been over 25 years since I've been in one and by then it was more like a bigger Captain Ds with a lobster tank.

Honestly just keep selling the biscuit mix at the grocery store and I don’t even need to set foot in one ever again.
