think there just isn't any value in going to a chain restaurant like this anymore. You used to be able to get great deals at them but now they just are not worth it

Applebees and Chilis still have decent deals. Honestly fast food has lost the most value. It’s always been shitty, but it’s not even cheap anymore. It cost close to the same to get a burger at Wendy’s as it does at a chain like Chilis. I can get one cheaper and way better than either at a local soul food diner

Younger generations have also shunned chains a little more than older ones. I'm not saying that I blame them, but it's definitely a thing.

They don’t shun them they just frequent different/newer chains.

They should franchise a cheddar biscuit restaurant instead

You can buy the mix in the grocery store now. No need for anyone to ever go to RL.

NOOOO!!! Metairie losing its location was a death knell for good seafood in the NOLA area.

I moved to New Orleans from Pennsylvania in the early 90’s when I was 20. I took a local girl on a date to Red Lobster and a movie at the theater at Lakeside mall. She never talked to me again. Coming from the northeast, I thought Red Lobster was a “good” seafood restaurant.

It is nothing short of a miracle that they are even still in business these days, food there is table scraps that I’m not sure my dog would even eat

No room in the market for mid range restaurants anymore. It's either fast food type places or higher end that has margins to still pay growing labor costs.

Red Lobster, Chilis, and Applebees types are going to get squeezed out.

I have never been to a Red Lobster in my life. Chain seafood restaurants are blasphemy in South Louisiana.

If the frozen meal part of the books is turning good profit margin focus on that a bit more and reduce restaurants.

I just don’t wanna lose the biscuits lol

Not what is happening.

People don’t eat at chains anymore like that and haven’t for years.

All of them are dying.

Isn’t Red Lobster owned by Darden? I can’t see Darden being in that bad of shape though their flagship chain might be Olive Garden at this point. I used to own shares of Darden about a decade ago.

Agreed but spending power is most certainly a factor. People will cut out eating at these types of establishments first.

Alcohol and cigs last.

The travel and service sector of the economy is on fire and fueling inflation. If you can’t afford to take your family out for popcorn shrimp and cheddar biscuits something is seriously wrong with your budget strategy.

I mean, can you blame someone for choosing better modern fast casual or local places?

Red lobster is not cheaper, and has no quality advantage.

It’s not particularly hard to get better seafood even deep in the Midwest these days

At least chilis you can get close to a reasonable price-quality ratio compared to peers, red lobster is a train wreck minus the biscuits

This is very true!

You embarrass yourself when you try and blame the economy for you being poor. All I’m reading is that everyone else is living their best life but your six kids and three ex-wives can’t afford a busted up chain restaurant.

Yes, you are absolutely correct.

The economy is booming and inflation is nonexistent.

And your “wonderful” state is a shining example of how great our economy is doing.

Red Lobster used to be decent like 20 years ago. It's clear as they got cheap that their food has just turned to the seafood Applebees

Love the Cheddar Biscuits and all you can eat shrimp. The Red Lobster in the next town needs remodeled. It smells like wet stale carpet and everything you touch feels tacky. Until they do something about that I doubt I ever eat there again.
