Isn’t Red Lobster owned by Darden? I can’t see Darden being in that bad of shape though their flagship chain might be Olive Garden at this point. I used to own shares of Darden about a decade ago.
No, they haven't been owned by Darden in years. They also own Ruth's Chris, but, yeah. OG is probably their flagship from a sales point.

Red Lobster is probably not worth visiting if you live near the coast and can get fresh seafood. Those of us in landlocked states don't have that option.

if I was going to pay that amount of money for frozen seafood Baton Rouge has plenty of seafood restaurants that are much better than Red Lobster.

This.

Part of the problem is that former Red Lobster President Edna Morris misjudged how much customers would eat during a $22.99 all-you-can-eat crab promotion. Red Lobster never recovered from that disastrous idea and lost an absolute fortune because of it. Customers went back on average 4 times to fill up their plates. Red Lobster could withstand 2 times but lost money on #3 and the #4 refill cost the restaurant roughly $17 dollars every time someone ordered the all you can eat crab promotion.

You ever heard of fostering goodwill and customer loyalty? If people think they got a deal they’d keep coming back again and again.

Or of loss leaders? I mean the chain is still around so they’ve done something right

There’s a certain demographic that would wear out red lobster.

They’ve all since migrated to “the juicy crab” type chains.

I think this is probably a major factor.

Used to be a higher end restaurant around here. My dad took me to dinner when I got my first real job out of college 30 years ago. Now it’s a ghetto joint.

At one point in time, North Baton Rouge used to be the prominent area of town to live in. Today, it’s a shite hole and for me, Baton Rouge essentially stops at the I-10 exit towards Lafayette.

I am sure the same can be said for many cities. And restaurants.

There is a certain element of the population that largely in part accepts no responsibility for their actions, doesn’t possess good work ethics, wants something for nothing, and is dependent on the government and others for a hand out. And this element of the population perpetually repeats this cycle with each generation and it only gets worse and worse every time.

Who can remember the original Red Lobster and its location in BR? I seem to recall it used to be located by Cullen’s Playland in between Airline Highway and Florida Boulevard on the service road.

NOOOO!!! Metairie losing its location was a death knell for good seafood in the NOLA area.
Is this sarcasm? Red Lobster is disgusting. Frozen shrimp that are stuck together when served...

There's lots of great seafood around NOLA. Why anyone would go to
RL is beyond me.

Have the folks who like red lobster ever had much spending power?

The chains like this are suffering because their prices have become comparable to the higher end restaurants. Where it used to be maybe 20% cheaper the price is now the same so why pay the same for lesser quality?

These “records“ are misleading when the cost of everything is up 25% at least.

My post wasn’t meant to be congratulatory nor punitive.

It’s merely an observation of mine when I go to places and see them very busy.

No one said the economy is good or bad in my post.

Just an observation.

Alternative explanation: red lobster is awful
Maybe so, but it has been in business for a long time producing the same stuff. This summer will be brutal for the left. They have less control over inflation, Iran is melting down around itself, and fuel prices will blow up again. Americans dont pay attention to inflation unless it is ridiculous, but they pay attention to fuel prices and to empty pockets.
