Most of my time in Dubai was spent drinking beers in the Sandbox. The place was basically desert with a single straight blacktop road heading into the city. There was the Gold Souk, the Seaman’s Club, and the mall was brand new and still under construction.

Dubai is basically the Middle East version of Miami. Their economy relies heavily on tourism and real estate, and the overwhelming majority of their residents are non-native transplants.

Leeds! I'd rather go to Leeds (in the winter) than the UAE.

I have no interest in ever visiting the ME. Honestly I can’t fathom taking my wife/family there.
Only like 15% of Dubai residents are actually from the UAE. The rest are foreign born. More Indians than anybody else probably.

Live there for 3 1/2 years in the marina area. We enjoyed it but if we could we would've lived in Oman. For a vacation, i would stay near a beach or the Burj Khalifa.

Abu Dhab
Visited there back in the 2000’s. Cleanest city I’ve ever seen. Exploding with growth
Its impressive watching a city the size of Chicago literally stop for prayers 5 times a day. Every mosque plays a call to prayer and every shop closed their doors. It’s stunningly beautiful to observe

This is correct. It’s 10% of the population actually. Lot of Indians and Filipinos.

Lots and lots of prostitutes in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Asian, Uzbeki and Uganda are the most common.

There’s a travel board. Unless you just think this is a flex which good for you I guess?

I was there for a week about two years ago during COVID. Everything is super expensive so be prepared. The transit system is first rate - get the premium pass that allows for riding in the lead car - it is worth it. The malls, while not my thing, are just big malls. Nothing special. Overall for the culture, I liked Old Dubai the best.

Honest question, why is traveling outside of the United States for vacations considered fancier/more desired than traveling/vacationing inside the US?
I get that the world has so much to offer and experience and that the different cultures and foods and sights truly are amazing, but I recently traveled through the Rocky Mountains for work for the first time and it made me realize that I haven’t seen shite around this country. The majority of my life has been on the gulf coast with occasional forays into the smoky mountains, so I am not some worldly traveler. But there is just so freaking much to see here at home.
I need to make a US bucket list and start seeing stuff domestically while I’m still young.

One reason is it feels like you’re in the future at times in Dubai and so many cultures in one area. Safer than anywhere in US.
Beach clubs, desert excursions with dinner and entertainment (along with riding a camel), and food is so good that I’m still searching for something similar back in Houston area.
I rarely hear Dubai as a vacation destination but would put it as one of the top tier of places I’d like to visit again for fun rather than work. Maybe those islands will be finished by then.

Dubai is great to go for business but it would be at the bottom of my list for an anniversary.

Is Dubai safe for non Binary people? Asking for the Democrats here.

We’ll I got a call from this Sheik’s assistant… they hire American women for that, it puts Americans at ease… and she said that his exaltedness saw my Instagram and wanted to fly me out first class for a modeling job, and when I got there he put me up in a top hotel and took me out in his yacht, but then he took a shite on my chest, and I’m going “WTF??”, so like, that’s the last time I’m going to THAT place.

I spent the evening at the "Runway Bar" out near the airport in Dubai in 1995. Me and 18 rag heads .

I had a rental car and drove all the way up the coast to Oman, which was actually a really cool drive, very uncrowded and a few nice sites.
In general, it's just a fake place that is super hot. There's lots of depressing stuff too. After searching for hours for a decent restaurant, we finally went to a place at the top of one of the nicer hotels. There was an obvious pimp in there with like 15 African hookers - clearly there against there will. It's like they don't even hide the human trafficking.
And at the time I was single. All the dating apps are nothing but obvious hookers - many of them African.
I don't get the appeal of this insane asylum.
I will say, driving all the way around the palm thing is pretty crazy. It's MUCH bigger than you think it might be.
