I bet shopping is something that is an objective that she's not telling him. No Bali, or Asia? Not Zurich? Something is going on.

I spent more time in Abu Dhabi, and just drove through Dubai, and greatly prefer the relatively fewer number of total douchebags in Abu Dhabi. But if she really wants to go shopping, hit the 7th in Paris near the Champs-Elysee. But no Fing way I would choose the UAE as a destination over France, Belgium, Spain, or anywhere, with you know, history and beauty. I'd rather go back to Manchester. Even Leeds! I'd rather go to Leeds (in the winter) than the UAE.

I agree. I like Abu Dhabi way better. And it’s easy enough to get a taxi to Dubai if you want to go for a day trip

I’ll take that every day over letting shithole American city crime run wild

And they really don’t. Be respectful and nothing will happen to you

Never been, but to me it seems like a fake arse city with no soul. A place where big money just it created because they could, something similar to the most commercialized aspects of Vegas.

I could think of a dozen places off the top of my head that I'd rather go to.

I spent 4 days in Dubai back in 2005 when I was in the military. Pretty cool place . A lot of construction was going on at the time so it’s probably a lot different now . They have an indoor snow skiing place inside one of there malls . Plenty to do

Pretty wild that there’s a place like that in the middle of such a shithole.

Spent last year in UAE. I was living in Abu Ahabi but did many weekends in Dubai. Honestly I wouldn’t fly 15 hours to Dubai as a vacation. There are far nicer places to vacation in. If you go the financial district is where you want to check out. Also the Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi is worth seeing. After the 2 days it takes to do that hop on an airplane to Muscat and enjoy the remainder of your vacation in Oman because it’s far superior to UAE.

Both places taxis are the preferred mode of transport. Don’t plan to visit UAE from June until October unless you just want to be inside the entire time because the heat and humidity are unbearable.

PJ area is nice but more of the attraction are downtown near the mall/BK. Dubai doesn’t feel like the Middle East. Zero Arab culture and a hot spot of Russian tourism especially around PJ. Oman has the best of both worlds. It has a culture but there is a separation of Mosque and state.

Big shiny buildings, fancy cars. That's about all. Wish we would've hit the souk.

The food is good but that's about it.

I read a post on here about a Louisiana man in Saudi Arabia. He was working for an oil company and he had a driver because it is not good for a Westerner to drive in SA.

The driver was on the way to the man’s hotel to pick him up for the day’s meetings and the driver got in a wreck which killed a Saudi.

The Louisiana man was not in the car at the time of the wreck. The Saudi government issued arrest warrants for the Louisiana man because the driver was working for him.

The Oil company flew the man back to the US before he could be arrested.

This story is one of the many reasons I don’t vacation in Muslim Nations.

We did part of our honeymoon there. Stayed a couple of nights at Jumeriah on the palm and did dinner at the sailboat looking restaurant. We also stayed at Al Maha one night with a private dinner at our cabana. We he hotels set up all transportation for you. Al Maha is about an hour drive into the desert.

FYI: we did a sunset camel ride with champagne and watched this guy work falcons at Al Maha. We were upgraded for our honeymoon. Quite possibly the nicest place I ever stayed. I see Marriot now owns it.

This was a stopover trip on the way back from the Maldives
Al Maha
