Louisiana: Compère Lapin, New Orleans

New Orleans has a famously buzzy restaurant scene and one of the most sought-after reservations is at Compère Lapin. This sophisticated restaurant mixes Caribbean and European influences with classic New Orleans–style flavors; this unusual approach has earned the restaurant and its chef Nina Compton several best restaurant and best chef accolades, including a James Beard Best Chef Award. Expect dishes like curried goat with sweet potato gnocchi and bread pudding with rum caramel sauce.

If you found a decent mussels dish in South Dakota, it’d be unforgettable.

Tacos Dona Lena is good but nothin to write home about. Taqueria Laredo is better for starters.

When I think of top notch Louisiana cuisine to put on a must have bucket list, I definitely think:

great place but it’s not hard to get a table. I’m not sure what they mean by “sought after”

the only place in the city that has a “sought-after” table is galatoires on a Friday

what's good there? i pass it regularly, but i haven't been in.

i love dona lena, but it's not appreciably better than dozens of other places. i'll put puebla's against all of them.

The one they have for Georgia is a fancy place in Decatur and I'm sure it's fine food, but if we are using the term "Bucket List" for restaurants around Atlanta, it has to be Mary Mac's in midtown.

Not bucket list, BUT the curried goat is one of my absolute favorite dishes in the city. It's divine.

Laredo isn't worth waiting in that line that’s always there.

Go down the street to Tio Trompo.

I'll agree if choosing between Deer and Dove and Mary Macs I would go Mary Macs 10 out of 10 times, and it is certainly an iconic Atlanta food place, as is the Varsity, but I wouldn't call either "bucket list."

I might reserve that designation for something like the Sundial, Bones, or Ray's On the River.

Franklin bbq for Austin, frick that. I’ve had it at an event with no line BS. It’s good but not worth waiting in any line. Lots of other options just as good.
