From position coach to head coach of the PATRIOTS?!

Bold strategy, Cotton.

Not even just a position coach, but inside linebacker coach. So one of those hyper position coaches.

A dude drafted in 2008 is now an NFL head coach.

We're all old.

Seems pretty surprising to me. I feel like this dude was playing at UT like yesterday.

This will back fire. What a dumpster fire. I kind of like it.

At least Demeco Ryan's was the goddamn dc...

This is like us hiring Zach strief instead of Dennis Allen

Really like Mayo but this is risky as hell. Really, really hope they put a great set of coaches around him.

Glad we went this route. Excited for Mayo and an infusion of youth/innovation while being able to keep the defensive core together and in the same system more or less

Curious to see what OC he goes for

LMAO!! phew, Vrabel at the Pats would have been scary.

Vrabel:

-4 winning seasons out of 6 as a head coach
-Playoff coaching experience with playoff wins under his belt
-NFL coach of the year, just two seasons ago.

Jerod Mayo:

-No head coaching experience
-No Coordinator experience
-Didn't even call the plays as a position coach with New England
-Named after a condiment

Rapaport saying Mayo replacing Belichick was actually written into his contract.

This was done solely for the purpose of skipping the hiring process and naming a successor quickly. Vrabel was probably on the wish list, but they would have had to go through a pool of candidates and several rounds of interviews. That being said...someone is about to score big time when they hire Mike Vrabel.
