You hire a guy who’s turned around ANY FBS program and turned them into a consistent winner. The days of poaching a winning coach from a “lesser” program at the P4 level are over in this age of NIL. Anyone can be successful with money. Rhett Lashlee? Dude has near unlimited funds and resources at SMU to get good players. LSU would be a step down. Go get a guy like the North Texas HC.

New LSU HC will be either be Dan Mullen or Hugh Freeze. Big names that are desperate enough to deal with Landry’s meddling to get/keep a big time job.

Dumb take. LSU’s offense is what lost that game leaving at least 3 TDs on the field. The defense did enough to win that game, but it’s hard to contain a really good offense in modern football when your offense goes three and out every series.

I’m curious to know what rules they had that made it confusing. We ran zone schemes when I was in college and it was super easy to remember our assignments. If there are too many situations that change the assignments, then it’s not really a rule and that’s not a good OC running an offense like that.

Not necessarily. You can run OZ without a TE…the OL blocking and RB track are exactly the same as with a TE.

And you most certainly can run IZ with a TE on the line…pro teams have run IZ out of the I formation and single back sets since the 80’s.

Split Zone, inside or outside, is just zone with an FB/HB/TE blocking the backside EMOL instead of the QB reading him.

Zone schemes are actually very simple, especially inside zone. Where teams run into problems is trying the run zone plays with poor technique. Bad steps, weak combo blocking, slow reaction to LBs…that will all render zone runs useless.

Not saying you’re wrong about O, but Canada sold people snake oil for years with his garbage system. The only reason he lasted as long as he did with the Steelers is because that organization doesn't fire people at the same rate as other teams and believes in consistency. Canada’s offense was pedestrian there as well.

OL and Nuss need to build more trust. There were some instances of Nuss back pedaling away from the pressure instead of stepping up and letting his guys protect him.

Running game needs to start clicking in the 1Q. It’s clear that the offense is designed to operate off of running the ball, but when it isn’t working the whole system bogs down.

WRs are obviously talented, but they are being limited by play calling. They aren’t the turn and burn types that will outrun defenses outside all game. They thrive on short/medium crossing routes with the occasional deep shot. Green is a unique big bodied weapon and LSU needs to move him around more to find matchups.

Defense looked REALLY good. DL was dominant and the LBs and secondary were flying around making plays. CBB has his system in and the guys are playing well. Didn’t like the way they gave up that short yardage TD, but they locked in after that.

CBK needs to take the points in big games, especially in that situation before half. If the defense doesn't shut Clemson down the second half that game goes very differently.

The problem is that there’s almost always an extra defender to pop him if he pulls it, and there’s no outlet for that. Can’t run a read option when you’re out leveraged.

The running game isn’t great, but tossing moon balls to covered receivers every play isn’t it either. The OL needs to grow up.

I don’t think schemes are necessarily making it harder to run, just backs are not getting as many carries. Everyone uses multiple RBs to reduce the wear and tear, so the days of an every down bell cow guy are pretty much over. 15-20 touches in a game is considered a lot by modern standards. If a back gets to 1400 yards in a 12 game season he is truly elite. Ashton Jeanty was an enigma even at a lower caliber school.

But, the days of lining up in the I formation as a base offense are definitely long gone.

They have to roster 4 QBs. Watson won’t play, but his contract is too big to cut or trade him. Flacco, Pickett, and one of the new rookies. Only way they keep both rookies is if Pickett is terrible
