Georgia don’t let this happen. We all know what happens. Georgia lets him walk to Atlanta and he ends up in Tuscaloosa when Saban retires.

completely unrelated to the topic at hand but that uni combo is absolutely beautiful

Fair point. I should have been more clear in my hypothetical.
Considering things are not going well w/Kirby and the dirty birds and Kirby is looking for an out.
The Georgia job is not available and therefore he can't boomerang back.
Just so happens Saban is ready to retire and the Bama job is open and they are looking at Kirby with a $15M offer.
Are we saying Kirby would not consider that?
Me thinks he would, again, considering the hypothetical.

If Kirby were to leave for the NFL (which I doubt) and fail, UGA would fire whoever their coach is at that time to re-hire him.

In your hypothetical, UGA tells their HC to kick rocks & brings Kirby back.

Head Coach Kirby Smart Departs Georgia Bulldogs to Lead Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta, GA – January 9, 2024 – The Atlanta Falcons announced today that Kirby Smart, the highly acclaimed head coach of the Georgia Bulldogs, will be taking the reins as the new head coach of the Falcons for the upcoming NFL season.
After an immensely successful tenure with the University of Georgia, where Smart led the Bulldogs to numerous victories, including two national championships, his decision to transition to the professional ranks has been met with excitement by both the Falcons' organization and football fans across Georgia.
Smart expressed gratitude for his time at UGA, stating, "My time at the University of Georgia has been nothing short of incredible. I am immensely grateful for the support and dedication of the Bulldog nation. I am excited to embark on this new journey with the Atlanta Falcons and bring my passion for the game to the professional level."
His departure marks the end of an era for the Bulldogs, who saw remarkable achievements under his leadership, including multiple SEC titles and a consistent presence among college football's elite programs.
The Falcons' front office eagerly anticipates the energy and expertise Smart will bring to the NFL team. Team owner Arthur Blank remarked, "We are thrilled to welcome Kirby Smart to the Atlanta Falcons family. His track record of success, leadership, and commitment to excellence make him an ideal fit to lead our team into a new era."
The search for a new head coach at the University of Georgia will begin immediately.

He's like Saban. If he can't recruit a better roster than everyone else, he loses his primary advantage. NFL isn't a fit.
This. This is why Bama fans can't get over the fact that Harbaugh is just as good a coach as Saban if not better because he can do it on every level.

Exactly

1. Kirby leaves for the Falcons. 2. Kirby realizes the NFL isn't for him after two years. 3. Nick retires and Alabama hires Kirby.

The Falcons aren’t in a position to offer what Kirby currently has. Kirby has the pick of the best of the best in a large state with massive amounts of high star rated players. He’s able to pay players and have an advantage that he would never have in the NFL. True coaching abilities come to the forefront in the NFL. Saban learned that when he gave up the huge recruiting advantages that he had at Bama. Kirby would be a fool to leave what he has now.

He will end up back at Georgia unless they get someone who can win back to back and in the hunt every year.

I see this as leveraging more money from UGA is all. He has already been to the nfl with nick when he left for the dolphins I believe albeit as a position coach or dc if I recall correctly.

Would be like a Spurrier situation of the 90’s. Dominated the game at your Alma Mater. Look around due to high accomplishments. Take a high paying NFL gig. Have options if it doesn’t work out. This has a track record Saban, Chip Kelly, Spurrier, etc. Hell even if Lincoln Riley would have done it. All ends with a good high paying college job if needed

Yall act like Saban and smart aren't great defensive coaches and motivators.
I never understand this line of thinking. Kirby has turned 2 and 3 stars into nfl players.

and I’m sure he remembers Nick Saban and the Dolphins
He was even with Saban in Miami in 2006

Please don’t speak this into existence. Thanks.

Now is the time to jump with the NIL stuff. Saban even said the atmosphere of college is not that good right now, or the quality of coaching in college is not good right now with NIL. I can't remember the exact quote thou.

That extra $10M is hard to turn down. I see it this way.
1) If after 5 years things are not working out I don't see that college would close its doors to Kirby.
2) The landscape of NIL and Collectives would have more clarity in 5 years if not sooner.
3) Either Georgia welcomes him back or he slides in as Saban's replacement, again, considering things don't work out in the league.
Yeah. Let's be honest, it won't work out for him in the NFL, and if his pride will accept that, why not? Take the money and run, and let college football try to clean itself up in the 3 years he will be gone (he won't make it 5 in the league)

There is definitely a sentiment among major college coaches about what college football has become with NIL+Transfer Portal. To the point where some heavies are looking to get out.
