you dont own the land, thats why you pay taxes on it. you dont own the deer, thats why you pay taxes on them. get the picture?

A landowner or person leasing land primarily for cultivation, their spouse, and dependents under 18 residing with them, may hunt, trap and fish on such land without a license.

I own land in Louisiana but live in Texas, I buy a freaking $300.00 license every year to hunt my own land.
I should have bought a lifetime license when I was "In State".

I would love to see MS allow you to hunt on your own land without a license. Paying for land, property taxes and such should allow that IMO. I totally get needing a license to hunt elsewhere in the state but hunting land deeded in your name should be allowed IMO.

Absolutely agree but it won’t happen. The government NEVER gives up money, they only take more

Hunting private land without a license
As long as green jeans doesn't come on his property, he can do whatever he wants without a license.
My gf is from Arkansas and I can hunt their family land without a license. Why would I spend a few hundred dollars to hunt a weekend on private property? frick that.

Yep, he’s paying taxes on his property, and as long as he doesn’t draw attention to what he’s doing, I mean it’s meh…

Tell that dumbass to buy a license or you are reporting him.
Posted on 12/8/23 at 7:28 am to TigerOnTheMountain
What are they going to do if they catch him? Take away his hunting privileges?
Old guy wasn’t following the law anyways. He’d probably just move deeper into the woods to hunt.

I agree with him.

Looks like it will cost the guy $16 for a Senior Lifetime Liscense-
Senior Lifetime License eligibility: Residents are eligible for the senior lifetime license when they turn 70 years of age. Disabled Veteran Lifetime License eligibility: Disabled Veteran: Residents who are 50% or more disabled veterans as determined by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Then what the hell did I pay for?
And my son's license to hunt and fish on my land that I own in MS (live in TN) is right at $500.
I have a lifetime license, so not an issue for me.

In MS it is legal to hunt without a license on land deeded in your name
Please show me where this exists?
You cannot claim residency in 2 states, even if you own land in MS, pay taxes, have an address, etc.
MS even requires non residents over 65 to purchase a license.
and they no longer offer a non resident lifetime license option unless you were born in MS or parents had a MS address at time of your birth.
20 years ago I was able to purchase a lifetime non resident by having a MS drivers license for 24 consecutive months while I was a student. Best investment ive ever made.
Resident - Each resident of the State of Mississippi ages sixteen (16) through sixty-four (64), must obtain a hunting license, except while hunting on lands titled in his name. Any person sixty-five (65) or older, or any person otherwise exempted from obtaining a hunting license, must have documentation with him/her at all times while hunting as described in "Exemptions" [MS. Code 49-7-5] below.
Non-Resident - All non-resident hunters, except minors under the age of sixteen (16), are required to obtain a hunting license while hunting in the State of Mississippi.
Exemptions
Residents who are visually impaired, paraplegic, a multiple-amputee, adjudged totally disabled by the Social Security Administration or totally service connected disabled by the Veterans Administration are not required to purchase a HUNTING OR FISHING LICENSE. [MS. Code 49-7-5 and 49-7-9] Residents exempt based on this criteria are required to have proof of their age, residency, disability status, or other physical impairment in their possession while engaged in hunting and fishing activities. All exempt licenses previously issued for DISABILITIES are null and void.
Proof of Residency
ONLY PERSONS DOMICILED WITHIN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI AS DEFINED IN SECTION 49-7-3 OF THE MISSISSIPPI CODE, AS AMENDED, ARE ENTITLED TO OBTAIN A RESIDENT HUNTING/ FISHING LICENSE.
Under this section, a person's domicile is that person's principal or primary home or place of abode. Provided, however, a person holding a current driver's license is deemed to be domiciled within the state that issued the driver's license. Even if a person currently resides within the State of Mississippi, for purposes of obtaining a hunting license, he/she is considered to be domiciled in the state which issued the driver's license.
I. If you HOLD a current driver's license:
a. If you hold a current MISSISSIPPI driver's license, you are entitled to purchase a resident hunting license.
b. If you hold a driver's license from any state other than Mississippi, you are required to purchase a non-resident hunting license.
II. If you DO NOT hold a current driver's license from any state:
You are entitled to purchase a resident hunting license if Mississippi is your principal or primary home or place of abode. A current Mississippi resident income tax return or a homestead exemption receipt may be considered as evidence of domicile, but these are not necessarily determinative. You may be denied a resident hunting license if you fail to provide adequate proof.
EXCEPTIONS
Even if you are domiciled in another state, you may purchase a resident hunting license if you provide either (1) a current identification card from a Mississippi college or university; or (2) a current military ID card showing that you are an active member of the Armed Forces (excluding Reserves and the National Guard) and proof that you are stationed on a military base in Mississippi.
Proof of age may be shown by the following:
A. A valid driver's license; or
B. Copy of birth certificate
Mississippi Lifetime License
To purchase a Lifetime License;
Lifetime Sportsman - you must provide proof of domicile of Mississippi for a minimum of 18 consecutive months.
Non-Resident Mississippi Native Lifetime - you must be a native-born Mississippian proving you were born in the state of Mississippi and parent's address was in Mississippi OR if you were not born in Mississippi, the parents' address was in Mississippi at the time of your birth.
Lifetime Sportsman MIL - you must provide proof of parent being born in Mississippi. Must also provide official documents indicating parent was on active military service at the time of your birth.

I bet he wouldn't hesitate to call the game warden if someone was poaching deer off of his private property....

Is Louisiana not like that? Alabama and Tennessee are.
I believe there is an age limit for that though (at least in Alabama, not sure about TN). 65 and older I believe are not required to purchase a license each year.

It was raised when they started the velvet season, to fund CWD testing of all bucks killed. In two years we have yet to have anyone give a shite about killing a buck in velvet enough to swat mosquitoes in 90 degree weather, but just like the out of state fee they know we’ll pay it now and CWD will never disappear to the point they don’t want to test, so get used to it.
