re: How long do you wait before shooting a doe with yearlings?

When the spots are fading and the fawns are feeding on browse, acorns, etc.

And on a statewide scale for a Southeastern state, Georgia has it about right. Ten does and a young buck are legal for the meat hunter, while the second buck requirement encourages quality management.
Dad lives on his 150 acres in Georgia. He won’t hunt much anymore, but he’s always complained about the buck rules for Georgia, which are -
A legal buck must have at least four points, one inch or longer, on one side of its antlers, or a minimum 15-inch outside antler spread.
He’ll shoot a spike or four point, then tell me how annoying it is to have to look for one that meets the higher requirements.
I gave him a good pair of binoculars and told him to only shoot bucks that meet the higher requirement. A 158” was killed a quarter mile away and he has plenty of does, yet the yearling bucks are what he will shoot when they come out.

What’s Arizona doing for buffalo herds to charge a non resident $5,415 just for the tag? The hunter must still hire an outfit or handle the logistics themselves. Also, most of the hunting will be conducted on federal land. Just another example of a state sticking it to a non resident.
Most states screw non residents. They have no vote, other than their dollars.
Missouri probably does the best job of funding their game and fish department.
Per AI-
The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is primarily funded through a dedicated one-eighth cent conservation sales tax, permit sales, and federal reimbursements. In fiscal year 2023, the total receipts were approximately $265.0 million, with the sales tax contributing about $159.8 million, permit sales and federal reimbursements accounting for roughly $88.3 million, and other sources like sales, rentals, and interest making up the rest.

That’s the dream right there. Congrats on a tremendous buck. I would’ve believed 190”
I left my Kansas buck overnight, as the hit was back, but he was pouring blood. I was on 80 acres, so didn’t want to push him off. Fortunately, the yotes didn’t mess with him and he’d only gone a 100 yards.

Right before I posted. Lol.

That’s the charge for the year. Go every day of the year if you want to.

Pennsylvania wouldn’t be in the top 20. Massive numbers of resident hunters and average trophy quality.
Don Higgins recently said that Kansas and Northern Ohio are the spots right now.
Iowa is tremendous, but it takes 5+ points for the better areas.

$2,500 annually. To me, if you make two trips, it’s worth it. I turkey hunted Missouri this past spring and just returned from a Kansas archery hunt. They also appear to have good duck hunting, but I haven’t been.

Right. But if I lived 50 miles from Oklahoma, I’d seriously look at that state.

I’d seriously look at Oklahoma since you’re right there.
I hunt with this outfit and I’m pleased. You need to be able to handle DIY.

I’m looking for one buck every season. I’ll shoot two if I find another good one.
I’ll shoot a mature cull type buck, but mainly I’m looking for a 130”+ buck.
Years ago, I had a small 4 point come by with a leg holding on by a thread. I killed him and heard at the skinning rack that another club member had shot him a few days earlier. I didn’t stay in that club. I didn’t want to be in a club where members shot year old bucks.

Rice bran will bring bucks in much better than corn.
