Kelly chose to come here and accepted the job knowing full well it was a dumpster fire. He certainly wasn't forced into it.
He was also handed a $95 million contract. I'm not feeling too bad for him.
I dont think anyone is asking you to feel sorry for him. Most people are saying to give the guy time.

Shula left Alabama in worse shape then what Kelly inherited at LSU in my opinion
I disagree bigtime. Bama was certainly in bad shape but it wasn't as bare. Guys that were on that 2007 roster that Saban didn't get there
Glen Coffee
DJ Hall
Andrew Smith
Brandon Deaderick
Wallace Gilberry
Rashad Johnson
Simeone Castille
Marquis Johnson
Javier Arenas
Pretty sure every one of those guys was drafted to the NFL and were very good players at Bama.

Kelly wasn’t given these garbage coaches on defense. He hired them.
Just like Saban hired his own coaches in 2000. And everybody forgets that in 2002 we went 8-5 losing by 18 to to 4-loss Virginia Tech, by 24 to 4-loss Auburn and by 31 to 3-loss Alabama.

Tackling, being out of postion, not staying in your rush lanes, leaving wide open uncovered is a coaching problem- Scheme is problem/ no adjustments. That is all coaching. If they dont understand it then its on the coaches.
It is time posters on recognize this. Yes, we are depleted in defensive talent. However we are playing way below the talent level we have.
We were able to replenish the roster on offense when BK got here. No excuse that we couldnt do half of that job on the defensive side of the ball.

Kelly treated the dumpster fire with hiring guys like Bill Polian oof. I heard coaches had to block his calls he was that fricking annoying. plus Polian ran off Mason smith to College station which obviously became a problem.
I get the Matt house hate and it’s warranted but the stench of the Polian hire still lingers and I haven’t seen Kelly able to pivot

That’s still a better defense than what is on the field this year

I think people should chill. The defense will not cut it, but an offense like this will. It is only year two.

It's not blaming O as much as it's giving Kelly the appropriate time to get it fixed
How many of the offensive stars were left by O?
When Thomas, Nabers, and Lacey leave, what then? How many younger guys have caught a pass in a game?
Getting it fixed?
What evidence is there that he is about to turn it around on defense?
Remember the promises made, prior to the season, prior to the Fl St game?

If he doesn’t fire house, that will lose me.
Can’t get beat like that, not adjust, and not recruit.

And it is very likely Kelly will never have an offense this good again.
Many seem to think improvement can only be linear. As if LSU's improvement only exists in a vacuum where the environment around them remains constant. That is simply not the case.
Yes, LSU was "down" when Kelly took over. But all of the variables were in place THIS YEAR for a great season.
1. LSU retuned what seemed to be the best QB in the SEC. He has been exactly that and more.
2. In addition to a good and experienced QB, LSU returned essentially an entire starting offense. Alabama didn't do that. Georgia didn't do that. Tennessee didn't. No one else in the SEC did.
3. Even ahead of the season the thought was the SEC could be a bit "down". It has been. Despite their record, this is one of the weakest Alabama teams in recent memory. Georgia is undefeated, but it has been much more of a struggle than in the prior two seasons. Tennessee had a big drop off from last season. Florida is still average, at best. Auburn is rebuilding. A&M is still Jimboing.
The league was there for the taking. LSU offense has been championship caliber. Better than anyone could have reasonably hoped for. Unfortunately, this coaching staff has done an absolutely abysmal job on defense.
Once again, this defense didn't have to be great for LSU to be a playoff team. It didn't even have to be "good". It had to just be average. Matt House and the LSU defense had arguably the largest margin for error of any defense in LSU history (except maybe 2019) and they have fallen incredibly short of reaching one of the lowest bars for success in LSU history.
LSU's offense next year is almost assuredly going to take a step back simply by virtue of the fact they will be losing a Heisman caliber QB and (likely) their three top (and really only) WRs. That likely means the defense will have to be MUCH improved for LSU just to have a shot at 9-3
When Kelly took over should anyone have EXPECTED LSU to be a playoff contender by year 2? No. But the pieces all fell into place both internally and externally for that to happen....and they have completely pissed away the opportunity.

I keep hearing this. How did O leave it in shambles?
38 man roster, totally undisciplined team, terrible Pelini hire, recruiting was declining and he basically quit on his team for a money grab 2/3rds of the way through his last season. He was totally dependent on high level coordinators to have have success and when they left he was done. Yes the program was in shambles when he was forced out.

Everybody wants to give Kelly all the credit for turning around the offensive side of the ball. 7 of our 11 starters were brought in by BK.
...but somehow its still Coach O's fault for the awful defense Kelly has put on the field. Its O's fault why we're getting out-schemed. Its Os fault why we can't tackle. Its O's why we can't get any pressure on the QB. Its O's fault why we're giving up 500+ yds on defense to anybody that has a respectable offense.
...and Its still Coach O's fault why we can't land any blue-chip interior defensive lineman, LBs, or Corners that will immediately impact this roster.
This x100. O left it in such shambles that it only impacts the defensive side of the ball? I'll give BK credit for grabbing quality guys like Daniels from the portal. But I also got excited for the guys we got in the portal on the defensive side like Duce Chesnut, Denver Harris, and Omar Speights. Yet...here we are.
Props to BK and the staff for getting the offense going, BK and his staff 100% take the blame for this disaster of a defense and it does not fall on what O left behind.

For those asking how did he inherit a massive dumpster fire, how about 39 scholarship players on the roster at the outset. A bowl game where a WR was playing QB. He essentially had to rebuild the roster from the ground up. Why do fans think it's that easy to do? It's going to take several recruiting cycles to rebuild this team. That is reality, folks, like it or not.
Not only this but it seems most fans have completely forgotten that LSU football is currently under recruiting sanctions for issues under the Miles & O tenures.
quote:
LSU's football program has been charged with three violations stemming from a wide-ranging ruling from the NCAA's Independent Resolution Panel (IRP), handed down Thursday, that also includes the men's basketball program. As part of the ruling, the football program received a Level I violation, a Level II violation and a Level III violation. Not only was LSU hit with a three-year probation sentence, which is set to end on Sept. 21, 2023, but the football team was forced to vacate 37 of its wins from the 2012-15 season due to the Level I violation.
quote:
According to the NCAA's release, the Level I violation dates back to 2012 when a representative of LSU's athletics interests paid the father of a prospective athlete a total of $180,150 over a five-year span as part of an embezzlement scheme. The athlete enrolled at LSU and competed from 2012-16.
quote:
The other violations were committed under former coaching staffs and the university already self-imposed punishments that the NCAA found adequate. Those included a postseason ban during the 2020-21 season, a reduction in eight football scholarships from 2021-22, a fine of $5,000 plus 0.5% of its averaged football budget, and vacated wins in which ineligible athletes competed in from 2012-16.
quote:
The final violation states that a former coach (Ed Orgeron) had impermissible contact with a 2020 football prospect during a Jan. 2019 evaluation period. As part of the probation, LSU has to inform prospective student athletes that it is on probation and file annual compliance reports to the NCAA regarding implementation of prescribed penalties and its monitoring of representatives of athletics' interests.
