How many more years are we allowed to blame O? Freaking ridiculous

It's not blaming O as much as it's giving Kelly the appropriate time to get it fixed. The defensive side of the ball was left with like 4 competent players and some of those were only gonna be at LSU one year so they weren't helping in the long term. LSU was thin at DB heading into the year and now you are down 3 CBs and your best DB in Greg Brooks. Losing Brooks was a major blow to this unit that seems to be glossed over. Our best DL is also out in Wingo and Smith seems to have lost a step after the ACL injury. So you have an already thin and not very talented defense losing the most talented guys and you end up with what we have. A terrible defense.

For those asking how did he inherit a massive dumpster fire, how about 39 scholarship players on the roster at the outset. A bowl game where a WR was playing QB. He essentially had to rebuild the roster from the ground up. Why do fans think it's that easy to do? It's going to take several recruiting cycles to rebuild this team. That is reality, folks, like it or not.
Saban had more of a “ dumpster fire” at Alabama in 2007 when he took over for Shula. He went 12-2 2008 and undefeated 14-0 NC the following season. Quit making excuses, Kelly hired House

Need to separate out problem statements. Yes, roster was depleted. But also yes, we have had recruiting cycles and aren't hitting on places of need. Players are also not only not improving but some are outright getting worse.

It's a much bigger problem then Coach O fricked us and BK just needs time. BK needs an entirely new staff on D, needs to figure out how to recruit blue chip Defensive players, etc.

With House I guarantee even if the cupboard was stocked we still wouldn't are a run

The defensive recruiting has been a big fail.

Wasn't Daronte Jones a plan F hire? Why was he more effective being Orgeron's DC in a dumpster fire 2021 than House (Mr. Plan B hire) is with the 2nd best offense in school history in 2023?

Its this little thing called talent... 2021 D was more talented that what we have now.

I’ve never seen a coach get as many passes as Brian Kelly constantly gets on this board. Everyone wants to point and laugh at Jimbo and A&M, LSU is far off from being what A&M has become.

We were alot more talented on defense last year and had a legit every down pass rusher in BJ with experienced proven guys on the backend from the portal and we finished 5th in the SEC in defense. That's pretty darn good considering.

Fast forward to this year. Our portal guys aren't near the caliber of past season. Harris can't get his crap together. Our best defensive back is lost to fricking brain cancer. Our best defensive lineman goes down. We have no legit every down pass rusher. A good portion of that is on this staff. We missed on some of these transfers and that's why Kelly wants to build from HS recruiting. He went and got Toviano, Jackson, Yaites, Stamps, and Hughs. We currently have McBryde, Bates, Johnson, Rogers, Woodland, Causey, and Foster committed. He's filling that DB room back up with talent but it takes time to develop these guys. You could easily look up in 2 years and we are back to being the LSU of old at DB.

Very convenient of you to leave out 2007 when Saban went 7-6 and lost to ULM.

True- the roster was in shambles but it is year two and he has the portal and NIL so rebuilding the roster should be a little easier than it was before. Also there is no excuse for horrific schemes and obvious lack of fundamentals and development over the season - regardless of talent- those are on Kelly and staff.

Because they think the only reason he couldn't get over the hump at ND was talent and admission requirements. Nevermind that his teams almost always fall flat in big time games and that he is a perennial loser against Top 10 teams.

Yea A&M won the SEC west last year in year one Jimbo after he took over a dumpster fire. Oh my bad, A&M has never won the west and Jimbo hasn't even been close in 6 years. That was LSU and Kelly that did it in year 1. Can't believe I got them confused.

Lance L was handed a worse situation in Kansas and they are having a better year than LSU. Stop with the lazy excuses

That was posted already. The poster just decided to leave out year 1 to make his point look better. Saban is the greatest to ever do it so if you think everybody needs to live up to what he did at Alabama there's exactly zero people alive capable of what he did back then now.

Kelly chose to come here and accepted the job knowing full well it was a dumpster fire. He certainly wasn't forced into it.

He was also handed a $95 million contract. I'm not feeling too bad for him.

right, his first year I think. Shula left Alabama in worse shape then what Kelly inherited at LSU in my opinion
