Didn't see this posted. Another piece of nostalgia gone. I'm actually surprised they lasted this long

They haven’t really been stocking them much for quite a while.
Going in there is like going into a wasteland if you want movies or physical video games compared to how they used to be.

I probably have a box of 200-300 dvds that for whatever reason I won’t throw out

I figure buying some DVDs might be a good move.
Wait 20-30 years.
Probably worth some $$$ if still in packaging.
Pete Davidson, bought up a bunch of VHS.
We are coming up on 20 years since last made(2006). I can't believe I'm saying Pete Davidson is making a smart move. But, he's probably onto something.

Better not. These greedy arse companies will find a way to screw us out of the digital copies we keep online, I guarantee it.

DVD is at least smarter than VHS.
VHS is bulky as hell, you have to store them non humid conditions stacked correctly, and you have to find a working VHS player that won’t eat it.
DVDs have the benefit of being smaller and you can get an external drive for a computer if you needed to.

Man I couldn’t tell you the last time I went in to a Best Buy. I’m honestly surprised they haven’t gone by the wayside like Circuit City and Radio Shack.

I try not to go in there because it is fricking depressing.
Unless you are having stuff drop shipped there for pickup, the main reason to go there would be if you want a TV Walmart doesn’t have.

If you are a big fan of a particular movie or TV series I would definitely get it on DVD. Shows and movies cycle around streaming services which can be a pain if you want to just watch it on a given day. I would argue a one time purchase of a disc is better than paying monthly for a bunch of different services.

The only way for you to always own it is physical.
And this is actually shitty news. I use Best Buy and Walmart to buy physical since there aren’t any real video stores around me and Barnes and noble is only good for their criterion sale. Everything else is way overpriced there.

I still have my CD cases for the car. Haven't owned a CD player in God knows how long.

Only 10 years after I stopped buying DVDs.

People love throwing their ownership rights away. You see it with this and digital gaming. I personally like to own what I buy. Seems pretty common sense.

Wow. I love my local Best Buy. It has pulled my arse out of the fire many times having in stock hard drives, adapters, etc.

Netflix also just announced they are stopping their DVD by mail rentals as well. Back in the 2000's I loved their DVD by mail rentals. Got to watch a lot of impossible to find movies that way. I guess now finding older movies will be impossible since Netflix has went all-in on carrying only original content.

They barely sell them now.

There’s still a decent selection at the BB in Baton Rouge. The problem is they are still far overpriced. I also don’t know if they actually have many regular DVDs, or if they are all Bluray and 4K ones.
It’s almost always cheaper to buy them online now. Which is what I do when I choose to purchase these days.

I started selling a few dvds and vhs on ebay last year. The vhs tapes sold almost immediately. I got $20 for my UHF vhs.

I got back into buying physical media a couple of years ago. I’m old, I like the idea of owning something and not being dependent on some horrible company granting you access. (plus you can watch shite if the internet is down) You can get DVDs for dirt cheap at thrift stores, 2nd & Charles, Wal-Mart.
