Before the first expansion, LSU and Auburn didn't play a lot. Series was 13-10-1 in favor of LSU, and the programs had a similar overall record. They won a national title in 1957, we won in 1958. Both considered very strong (but not elite) programs, people wondered how it would shake out when they started playing every season. Auburn won 6 of the first 10 games starting in 1992, then Saban came and the programs starting splitting SEC West titles every other season. Then Miles came, and LSU started pulling away, winning 3 out of every 4 games. LSU's longest win streak in the series was 3, and Auburn's was 4.
After tonight, we're up 33-24-1 in the series, and Auburn is not on the 2024 schedule.

This was a great, hard-fought series where both teams had exceptional players, and I'm gonna miss it. It has been in my top 3 series, along with Florida and Alabama.

And to add... some of the most ridiculous plays/calls/extra curricular things imaginable. Playing Auburn has always seemed to be an adventure into the unknown. It was infuriating at times.

ETA: Good post.

It didn't have a sexy name, or trophy, or spot on the calendar...but I know both schools will miss thus annual match up!

I'm pissed about the expansion. I just moved to Auburn earlier this year for work, before next year's schedule came out.

I take all the blame for the change with my shitty luck. Fully expected to be able to walk to an LSU@Aubie game every two years. Was especially looking forward to 2024.

This. Let 8&4 go play their big brother and all the other Big XII schools they ran away from every year and let us keep Auburn as a permanent opponent instead.

Yes. There were years where they were the premier game on our schedule. Some weird stuff went on in this series.

Unfortunately, Auburn would rather keep Georgia and Alabama. They aren’t going to have the 3 best programs in the conference as permanent opponents.

Some great numbers there. Well said.
Also, great close trip away game. Auburn is only like really 6 hours, quick drive away. Great fans....compared to picking up Texas and OU, which are much further away.

There was a stretch where it was LSU's first SEC game of the year. Made for a great measuring stick.

I’m from Alabama grew up a Bo Jackson fan but ended up in Louisiana and graduated from LSU.
Although I’ll miss this game yearly, it now will be a little more special if it’s only every other year or so.

LSU will still be playing Auburn twice in every 4-year period.

I agree. After all the years ( boy scout usher in early 80 late 79 Era) through hs n beyond Auburn has always been a true Rival with stories and drama. Not made up pushed by others stuff but grass roots authentic. Usually close and Usually important.
One thing that is sometimes forgotten is that we and Auburn have been tied together through Bama n the iron bowl as well as our game vs Bama in importance to each other as well.many years I've wanted to destroy them our game and wished like Christmas they beat Bama so we could have a shot.

Through the coaches the perfect forfeited season of Bowden just crazy earthquakes n blazes, 4 interceptions seared into my heart in a half to lose.

It will be missed.
