This douche deserved to get his arse kicked. And remember they got penalized for stomping on the Tiger eye before the game. Trash. Per tuba player involved in the incident:
quote:

During halftime of this game, BEFORE the end of our halftime show, the Auburn special teams, including kicker Damon Duval, decided to start warming up in the middle of our show. Seriously, they started kicking the ball and throwing it around in the middle of the band. It lead to the fans booing BIGTIME, and led to scuffle with myself, and some other bandsmen.

The whole event is actually chronicled on Wikipedia: "Auburn kicker Damon Duval got into an altercation with LSU marching band members Mark Aycock and Joey LaHatte during their halftime performance. It was believed that the Auburn special teams units prematurely started post-half time warmup while the LSU Band was still performing its halftime show. After this incident Duval did not make another field goal that night. Tommy Tuberville later sent a letter to the band leader Frank Wickes apologizing for Duval’s actions".

It is pretty accurate, and my friends and former bandsmen still talk to me about it to this day. I wanted to throw punches, but drum major Tony Marinello thankfully broke up the fight before it could get any worse.

I was at that game and for some reason every time I see the final score was only 27-14, I feel like that can't be right. Felt way worse than that, I don't remember Auburn doing much of anything all night, it was an arse kicking that they deserved.

I was there too and I totally agree. LSU seemed like they were in complete control the entire game. LSU scored early, Rohan to Reed IIRC. Auburn scored on a long touchdown pass to tie the game. After that Auburn did almost nothing. I remember Tommy Tubberville scowling a lot.

Also starting the game off with an onside kick was badass. Michael Clayton recovered.

I was as well on both accounts.

I was on the other side and didn’t truly know exactly what happened until we got completely off the field…..we were about as fired up as a marching band can be I imagine.

Awesome job from this old Baritone player from the mid 80’s. That was a great moment in TGBFTL history.

My claim to fame is that I’m in the video of the earthquake game. I’m up n the upper left corner of the band.

There's something about the thought of a fight between a kicker and a band member that makes me laugh. It's like a fight between Goofy and Minnie Mouse.

Michael Clayton should have went to jail for assault that night, and it was amazing.

I was there and TS was a fricking zoo that night. It was bad enough that Auburn had taken pictures smoking cigars on the field in 99 and the game had been moved to the end of the year because of the 9/11 attacks so the game was for the west. But Auburn absolutely kicked a hornets nest when they came out of the locker room and stomped on the eye before the game which lead to the opening onside kick from the 50. Then Duvall came out of the locker room during halftime and started kicking field goals while the band was performing and all hell broke loose. For a few minutes it seemed like the fans may rush the field and go after him. That was my most memorable night in TS seeing them win their first SEC West championship in a haze of cigar smoke.

Imagine a fricking kicker trying to be the big badass lol. Tuberville should’ve asked him who the hell he thought he was.

That’s the game that started the “if someone gets in the formation don’t stop, and if you knock ‘em out, so be it” direction we got from section leaders after the first practice.

A friend of mine was in that band. Said they were about 15 feet away, looked over an saw an Auburn helmet getting shoved around inside a sea of white feathers.
