re: LSU Running Backs

I don't think Holley will be anywhere close to being ready to play unless it's in the latter part of the season, at best.
re: USC giving top TE a nice NIL package These players are getting NFL deals
Posted by BillF on 6/9/25 at 2:34 pm
It still remains to be seen how the NIL plays out under the House Settlement. As I understand it, the revenue sharing kicks in on July 1st, but NIL restrictions became effective when the Settlement was signed. If so (and I could be wrong on that), the kids who have yet to sign an NIL deal are losing money.
It seems odd that there is one enforcement date for revenue sharing and another for NIL, but I've been unable to find anything to dispute it.
Either way, the NIL valuation and even the Enforcement Committee are going to face a barrage of legal challenges, and I doubt either will have a lot of staying power.
We're just getting started.

re: Curiel’s faith

For those who haven't accepted Christ as their Savior, living life as a Christian and the transformation is impossible to understand.
As for those who have accepted Christ and follow the Word of the Gospel, they actually do understand the difference between the old man and the new man.
It's a matter of faith and a changed life. It can't fully be explained unless you've actually lived it. Better to pray for the non-believers and move on from these discussions.

re: You think the team has practiced “dog-piling” this week?
Posted by BillF on 6/8/25 at 2:26 pm
The dog pile is one of baseball's dumbest "traditions." It's even worse than the football Gatorade bath. Wasn't it Mestepey (sp?) Who got hurt in one of those?

re: Today’s lineup is out

Maybe we just trust the coach who knows his team better than any of us do.
Heck, maybe Pearson and Curiel are both motivated by their spots in the lineup and both have big days.
It's LSU, at home, in a huge game. Good things tend to happen.

I really do like their products shown on their web page.
re: Apparently West Virginia Likes to Get "Really Chippy"

There's a difference between rowdy fans jawing at opposing players and a coach and his players mouthing off to players and umpires. One is generally expected. The other is not.
re: Some FB Stuff

A few years ago, the FPI had Mississippi State in the preseason Top 10. I don't know if that has come out this year, but it's always squirrelly.
Apparently West Virginia Likes to Get "Really Chippy"
Posted by BillF on 6/6/25 at 9:55 am
On the West Virginia 247 site, there's a story about a their players getting "chippy with Clemson's All-ACC starting pitcher. It seems to have worked, because he gave up three runs in the first inning.
The umpire went to the West Virginia dugout and told the coach to tone it down. The coach said he "barked" at the umpire and told him to concentrate on the Clemson crowd, not the 20 guys in the West Virginia dugout, and the exchange got pretty heated.
The coach (named Sabins) is all for his players yapping at the other team (and the coach getting heated at the umpire) in an effort to win.
Vitello Jr coming to The Box this weekend?

re: The pride of Rosepine

My mother was born and raised in Rosepine many years ago, and played high school basketball there. After high school, she moved to the big city of DeRidder, where she met and married my dad.
There's a lot of pride among the people who grew up in those tiny towns.

It appears that USC has set their sights on Houston, and they're making a big push for him.
re: Tristen Keys Signs NIL Deal With Adidas
Posted by BillF on 6/5/25 at 9:31 am
When he committed to LSU, about all he spoke about was money, providing for his "family", etc. Combined with him being an out-of-state guy, I doubt many of us thought LSU had much of a chance to sign him.
I know all schools get played by the kids (and especially by their mommas), but it seems to happen to LSU far too much.

re: Someone explain Disney obsessed adults to me

I guess it's just a matter of what you like. I knew a guy who spent a lot of money and time on remote-controlled airplanes. I found it the most boring thing imaginable. A lot of my friends deer hunt, but I would much rather go to a Broadway musical.
To each his own. Universal is still a blast as far as I'm concerned.

re: Someone needs to explain “throwing off”! The term makes absolutely no sense!
Posted by BillF on 6/3/25 at 5:14 am
In baseball, people like to invent different words and phrases about nearly everything,. Then the copycat people repeat the words and phrases to prove to everyone that they "know baseball" and that they're really cool.
People act like baseball is a zen sport, and that it's too complex for the normal man to understand. It isn't.
Like I posted the other day, the little fella who first coined the "throwing off" phrase has to feel pretty smug this time of year.

re: Why are USC and Oregon State playing now but we play at 8pm?
Posted by BillF on 6/2/25 at 6:34 pm
Because ESPN also thought the 7-time CWS champion would be a bigger draw in prime time.
People on this board whine like little girls when the football games are in the daytime and when the baseball games are at night.
Develop some backbone.

re: Why are USC and Oregon State playing now but we play at 8pm?

Because ESPN pays a lot of money for the NCAA tournament and they want ss many hours of programming as possible on their two main platforms.

If you put Frey at 3rd, a difficult grounder will automatically find him at a crucial time of the game. And if you put him there after he hasn't played there all year, his nervousness would be sky high, and rightfully so.
No, you absolutely cannot put him at 3rd.
