This series has reminded me of how much the sequel trilogy missed out on. Imagine an interaction between force ghost Anakin and Luke. They could have explored some of the stuff we’ve seen in Ahsoka.
Instead of Snoke and the return of Palpatine, they could’ve made Thrawn return and be the main villain of the sequel trilogy. You could still incorporate the Rebels crew and Ahsoka into that story but also have the OG trilogy cast. Anakin, Obi Wan and Yoda as force ghosts could’ve been guides for Luke. Ahsoka could help Luke. There’s just so much that they didn’t use for the sequel trilogy that would have made it so much better than what we actually got.

Of the Disney Plus Star Wars shows I have seen (I haven't seen Andor), this has been my favorite one, but that's ultimately not saying much.
The show still felt to me like a 2.5 hour long movie stretched to fill a 7 hour TV series.
I still think that the absolutely glacial pace with which the Lucas Film story group moves is the reason why there were so many teases without a payoff. They are laying down the tracks while the train is moving.

Someone tell this dude television shows can have multiple seasons.
This was suppose to be a mini-series with rumors of maybe a 2nd season leading up to the movie.
We basically have 5 storylines here; Thrawn, Ezra, Ahsoka & Sabine, and Baylan & Shin.
Sorry for wanting some kind of payoff for at least one of them which I feel like there was zero, multiple seasons or not.
We had 5 seconds of screen time for Baylan & Shin
Love the potential and characters, but for the “season finale” I wanted a holy shite moment.

Also wasn't a fan of the sound effects during the last fight. Why did Elsbeth's sword make a ping sound? I guess it was supposed to be metal of some kind, but would enchanted metal ping when hit by a laser sword?

I think you have that backwards. It felt like a 13-16 episode season compressed into 8 episodes. That lack of depth you felt wasn't filler, it was stuff that wasn't explored as deeply as it should have been.
They should have easily had a flashback episode or 2 of what happened with Thrawn and Ezra between the end of Rebels and when Ahsoka/Sabine arrived. I think a lot of people would have liked more back story on Balen as well. Then I see all of these people who have watched Clone Wars with in depth theories on the Father/Daughter/Son and I have very little idea what they're talking about. It seems central to the story, they should tell us about it instead of expecting us to have watched Clone Wars.

I bought a "Force trainer" toy,
I have watched every Star Wars and Star Trek show/movie and even I'm going to say that's more than a little nerdy.
To be fair, I did state that I've seen a lot of EEG's done, and I'm familiar with brainwave activity. I've always been fascinated by that, part of the reason I took neurobiology and neurophysiology while at LSU.
When the toy came out, my kid was the right age for a Star Wars toy, so I looked at it. And when I learned it was EEG-powered, I was very intrigued; I haven't seen other items that function like that. And it DOES work (not the Force , I think it's picking up Theta wave activity based on when it works).
I brought it up to work and we all played around with it.

You definitely have to recast Skoll
Too much of an unfinished story
It shouldn't be too hard to find someone to replace
Lots of shows recast people. Game of Thrones did Dario and Gregor. Spartacus did the lead role- that one was a close fit
Way back when, there were 2 Darrens in Bewitched.
It won't be hard, you just need a kinda big dude who's got salt and pepper hair and beard, who can act reserved and a bit brooding. The only thing you really need is to get someone who can look and sound similar, and the next show/movie would be a year from now.

Can someone explain to me what happened with Babylon and his apprentice?
Why did they stay in that galaxy?

Thrawn wanted to get back to the original Star Wars galaxy - done
Ezra wanted to get back to the original Star Wars galaxy - done
Ahsoka, I'm not really sure what her storyline was to be honest. It was either the Anakin stuff, which I would say was wrapped up, or trying to keep Thrawn from returning, which she failed at, but ultimately wrapped up as well.
Sabine wanted to find Ezra - done
Baylan wanted to find what he was looking for, which he did, but ended on a cliffhanger.
The show wrapped up storylines and opened new ones. Did a good job, in my book.

Pretty decent Star Wars that set up other storylines with a lot of potential.

It’s almost like both of you are right.
The result I’m afraid is a bit of a disorganized mess. I can understand there are parts that, as someone who didn’t watch CW/R, I “missed” being excited over. I invested time
to watch the recommended episodes of those shows for background, but the series never really built any strong admiration for, attachment to or interest in the characters.
A good comparison to see what was wrong with this series is Rogue One. It brought together multiple compelling characters into one story arc that the viewer cared about. It did it is such a way that people “wanted to see the background of that Andor guy”.

Shin was supposed to kill Ezra and leave with the group. Baylon is on the hunt for the father/son/daughter.

I think this show is sorta in an awkward middle ground. So much of the setup happened in Rebels and Clone Wars, but there was also a fair amount of character development for Ahsoka and Sabine’s relationship that happened off screen post-Rebels.
In a shorter movie, they could have skipped a lot of the tomb raider and mcguffin nonsense in the first couple episodes and made a more concise 2hr movie that gets Thrawn back in the galaxy and sets up the next season of Mando (assuming). There were a lot of weird pacing decisions in this show, especially in the first few episodes that felt like they were padding out the run-time.
In a longer series, they could have done a lot more to build up these characters through flashbacks to events from Clone Wars and Rebels to bring viewers who missed those series up to speed. This could potentially give Hera a little more to do besides just being some welcome eye-candy. I feel like Sabine’s journey by the end felt a little unearned in this series if one hadn’t seen rebels. She seems like she gets exactly what she wants while constantly f$&king up and betraying her friends. A longer series could help to better establish her and Ahsoka’s dynamic as well as her and Ezra’s bond so that her decisions make more sense to the audience. I also want to know more about Baylen and Shin. They were very intriguing, and got minimal screen time.
Personally, this show feels like a weird compromise between two concepts to get the plot where it needs to be for Filoni’s vision. It was fun, but ultimately, just okay content. I enjoyed it, but it’s very flawed with lots of weird decisions by characters.

Better than Obi Wan, not as good as Boba Fett
-Andor
-Mandalorian
-Boba Fett
-Ahsoka
-Ewok made for TV Movies
-SW Holiday Special
-Obi Wan

I had big expectations for this series. Unfortunately I can’t help but feel extremely underwhelmed. It was pretty obvious the end goal was to get Thrawn and Ezra back into the main universe and they rushed the storyline to get there.
Posted on 10/4/23 at 9:22 pm to Blizzard of Chizz
They also made Thrawn incompetent, and Ezra exists to be Ken to Sabine's Barbie.
