Can we? I'm beginning to wonder if all these current coaching contracts and buyouts for former coaches are holding us back from facility upgrades

The majority of coaches salaries come from private donations, so I’m assuming donors are ok with their money being spent that way. But to your point I’m sure it takes away from the facility budget as well

The amount of publicity the Women's teams brings to the university far out weighs the lack of being able to turn a profit on the program. I love the length of the contract shows players Kim is going to be here for awhile.

She makes the whole LSU program in all areas better top to bottom.
Well worth it.

It’s been awhile but from what I remember the very top wbb schools don’t lose much and maybe make a slight amount.

There's not more they could do. The PMAC is going to stay packed. Only thing that could bring it more money is more expensive tickets and more money from a TV deal.

Would be the easiest decision of their lives by far.

Well, it has now been two years since Mulkey was hired. Back in April of 2021 there were a number of haters that went on and on about how LSU should never spend $2 million a year on a women's basketball coach. I can only imagine how much it pains them to see Woodward give our hall of fame, newly crowned national champion coach THREE MILLION A YEAR. I love it! She's worth every penny and then some.

From a purely financial standpoint paying your WBB coach well over $1M per year is a bad decision given the sport won’t turn a profit. Particularly with such a high coaching salary. But if there is any HC who deserves it, it’s Mulkey.

She benefits the athletic department and school in other ways. There were reportedly some donors who hadn’t given money in a long time decide to start giving again after she got hired.

I don’t know all the ins and outs but I suspect she’s going to earn that contract.

Or…….

What if lsu structures this in a manner where she signs a ten year contract, lsu pays x per win, bonuses on post season games and championships

I love Kim Mulkey.

frick. Pay her more.

But make it contingent

Start a trend. We have to stop marrying coaches

It would be awesome if Kim coached another 10 seasons !

No way this happens. She will probably retire in about 5, 7 at the most. As good and as intense as she is basketball isn’t her life. Her family is.

Woody has already thought that the through. That’s why he pays the men’s basketball coach near the bottom of the league (after avoiding a buyout on Wade). He’s decided he’s not going to commit the money to be successful in MBB, so he’ll use resources to be dominant on WBB.

It’s sad, but certainly appears to be the strategy. A little bit of NIL money and paying the WBB coach more than the men’s coach goes a long way in a non-revenue sport.

Until he decides to get a top tier coach and promote the NIL money it takes to get top talent on the men’s side, you really can’t argue with this.

Paying Mulkey that much money is better as opposed to paying Kelley 10 million a year.
