Will be very good for a while

“LSU and Kim Mulkey have agreed to a contract extension that will make her the highest-paid women's basketball coach in the nation, according to a term sheet The Advocate obtained Wednesday through a public records request.

The new 10-year, $32 million deal is pending final approval from the LSU Board of Supervisors, which meets Friday.“

LSU is likely to land the #1 and #5 players in the country (24 class) after their visits this weekend. She's just getting started.

IIRC the women’s basketball team was losing ~2.5 million a year under Fargas. After last season they probably broke even or made a small profit. Sounds like a fair deal.

The women’s basketball program will never make a profit. That’s not a knock against Mulkey or the team, that’s true for every school. Football, basketball, and a small number of baseball teams turn profit, that’s it.

It’s been awhile but from what I remember the very top wbb schools don’t lose much and maybe make a slight amount.

They didn’t make a profit and likely never will. The financial demand for WBB isn’t there, but the expenses are higher than any other women’s sport.

From a purely financial standpoint paying your WBB coach well over $1M per year is a bad decision given the sport won’t turn a profit. Particularly with such a high coaching salary. But if there is any HC who deserves it, it’s Mulkey.

You trade the financial loss for championships

I LOVE Kim Mulkey , but , women’s basketball doesn’t generate a ton of income for the university . Where is this money coming from ?? 10 years and 32 million seems excessive , to say the least . Sure , give her a raise , why not 5 years and say 10 to 15 million with some perks ? We may have to buy out Kelly before it’s over !!

Actually Fargas’ program lost approximately four million a year at the end.
Because expenses went up in a big way when Mulkey was hired the losses went up.

But LSU has the money in the Ath Dept. and the publicity we get from her program is worth it.

Her continually referring to herself as “so old” makes me wonder how long she wants to continue.

I see people saying WB doesn’t make a profit and they are right but what coaches like Kim, Geno and other greats bring to the University is not really measurable. She is worth every penny and more.

I’m not mad at her pay because we can afford it, but you saying that what she brings to the university isn’t measure then immediately following it up by saying you know she is worth more than $3.2 million a year is funny.

Can we? I'm beginning to wonder if all these current coaching contracts and buyouts for former coaches are holding us back from facility upgrades
