We are settled with two small kids and both parents within 15 minutes. Also, all of friends and deeply involved with our church.
It would have to be FU money. No way id do it just for an extra 20-50k.
Im just at a point in my life where I dont want to start over. maybe in my 20s i would have.

Gonna cost you probably $10k in moving expenses, the. You have to rent a house until you find where you want to live.
Negotiate moving costs expenses with new company

It all depends on where I’m moving and the cost of living there. I like it here but I will be moving when my kids are grown. Probably every 5 years or so

Most places it would take at least 40%.
It would take 200% to move back to Louisiana.

$0 and my wife finally saying she is ready to GTFO of La.

If it offers the opportunity to live in a nicer part of the world I would do it for the same money.

I moved across the country for a 50% increase but would've done it for less. I was ready to get out of LA.
Caveat: I don't have kids though so it was easier to do so.

Depends on the location. I just bought a house, so it would take a disgusting amount of money that frankly nobody would pay me.

Your wife and mine must have been talking to each other because she has been saying the same thing lately.

Enough for me to not have to sell my current house and land

If I stayed the same or a bit less I would move somewhere in the mountains far far away from people. Problem is, the aren't many industrial construction opportunities in the rural mountain areas! Lol

We don't want to move with a kid in high school but when she's done in 2 years I'd take a pay cut to move somewhere more desirable for us.

Finally moving out of college station?

The only reason I'm in BR at all is because of family. And I'd venture to guess that's similar to at least 75% of the users of this site.

pay isnt the thing holding me back. i would take a pay cut to get out of La and into a place that had a better climate and more things to do outside

Completely agree.
I left Louisiana after living there for 40 years and moved to Texas for a similar salary but more upward potential.
You'd have to offer me $75-100k more than I'm currently making to have me even entertain the idea of moving back to LA. And honestly, even that doesn't seem appealing to me.

I would need my salary doubled, same or more PTO, and similar options for my 401k. Why? I'm locked in on a mortgage at 2.65%, my in-laws live 15 min away (great convenience with a kiddo), and I'm in one of the best public school districts in the country.

If the cost of living is higher where you would go, then I would say cost of living plus 20%.
If it's a lower or equal cost of living then just a straight 20% minimum.
