Yeah, we had a kid last year and we have a $6500 total out of pocket for the r year and everything after that is covered 100%. Then we get our first few bills only to find out only certain cost codes go towards that total, which was less than half of them. So we paid 7k out of pocket total on top of the 1200/mo. For premiums.
It’s 100% a fricking scam, insurance and hospitals are both in on it. Docs know it is, too, but don’t want to say anything out of fear of losing their jobs.
We all need to rise up and tell these people to frick off with their theft schemes. Banks, hospitals, federal reserve, all of it.

Believe it or not you can call their billing department and negotiate a lower cost. We had an $8,000 bill after insurance when my wife was in and out of the hospital with some issues and the hospital told me they could accept about $4,200. Made my day.

To make matters more stupid, they charged me $18 for FENTANYL, and $90 for PROPOFOL, and were trying to hit me for $654.50 for TYLENOL.
Nevermind that I could have given her oral Tylenol an hour before surgery for 15 cents.
Many times doctors don't seem to be aware of what is being charged. An example is imaging (X-Ray, CT, Ultrasound, etc.) Hermann charged me $1,300 for a procedure, which I later found for under $150. I told the doctor and she asked where I found the pricing I did, because she was shocked.
It pays to shop around. I know you can't in this case, because your wife has probably already fallen in love with the wallpaper in the delivery room or some shite, but you get the point.

There's gonna be stuff on your bill that can be questioned.
There is zero reason to have to do that amount of work to keep from being bent over by health care providers. People of worth pay out their arse for health insurance and just get screwed over and over and over.

The hospitals should charge the amount that Medicaid covers to everyone
If Medicaid pays $4000 to cover a birth, then it should be $4000 for everyone

Honestly, it was mainly just cutting and pasting, updating dates, and sending the same stuff to them again, and again, and again.
But it was my money at risk, and I treated the situation that way. BTW, I also checked, and I paid $2,546 the morning of the surgery, so it's not like I just walked out with a $20 co pay and pretended surgery was magic.

Medicaid dictate what they will pay hospitals. For example an ER visit pays the hospital around $80 per patient. That’s why it’s so expensive for people with insurance.
