It’s the government’s fault. We need to stop taking care of poor people. Healthcare isn’t a right. I’d rather keep my money even if it means some unfortunate people have to die.

How do you think the people on Medicaid pay $0? It’s because the rest of us pay so much more. This is called socialism.

All the non addicts have cable/satellite and newer phones than I do. I love going to a gas station and seeing the chick behind the counter with a big arse nail job and an iPhone 14 Pro, but couldn't afford the $6 a month that birth control costs at Walmart.

But keep trolling.

Wrong, it’s our fault for allowing them to do it. 90% of this shite is on the boomers. They didn’t discipline themselves or their kids.

And there’s a damn good chance that Mexican is a more productive member of our society than the “American” receiving the same benefit

Sorry you were lied to about Obamacare and what it would do to everyone long term.

In order to succeed today, you need to be a victim. Without that status, it isn't cheap to do the right thing.

You are the government “fronting “ the bill for those who don’t contribute.

Ie. An additional Tax.

Hospital just called to tell us our bill to have our first child will be $4,200 out of pocket after insurance.

The average American has less than $5,000 in savings. We can only assume Louisiana is below this average.

So I have private insurance, get hammered by federal tax income, work over 40 hours a week to provide for my family, and have to pay $4,200 cash to have a child, but someone with Medicaid pays $0 and has the government front the bill?

This is the part where I point out that we're already covering all of these costs and it would be exponentially easier to move to a Medicare for all model.

We're already covering the poors with our tax dollars and you're already paying the premiums out of your check for private insurance.

The only thing that is happening today is that there are several middle men between us and the care that is provided...and guess what? They all get a cut.

But by all means....let's keep blaming the poors.

The time is coming for single payer government insurance. Sounds horrible but it's the only answer it seems. Fewer and fewer jobs are coming with insurance perks, and when they do it generally either sucks or your entire paycheck goes to it. This isn't sustainable in the least

I had an eye exam in January. I just last week got the bill for my share of the copay. I don't know many businesses that can afford to sit on their accounts receivable like that.

This is why mortgage companies throw out late / non payments on medical bills. Oh,and they throw out red light camera tickets for non payment as well. It's part of our white privilege, thankfully.

Find a not-for-profit hospital. Let insurance pay what they normally would. The hospital will have to eat the rest with very little they can do to collect the remainder. For one, they can not put it on your credit report.

They also "reversed" a "managed care discount" of $238.29 six weeks after surgery, which they never explained, and I never paid.

All in all, it was a little over four years from initial payment at the date of service to them giving up on trying to collect after I repeatedly disputed.

I pay out of pocket and get reimbursed by a sharing ministry. I went to the doctor for a persistent cough in 2019 and paid up front. Somehow, even though I presented myself as self pay, I got a $28 refund in 2022 (and no, that isn't a 28 dollars 3 years joke).

Not that I'm complaining but it can't get any more straightforward than a cash office visit.

Also got a $4 refund from an emergency vet 5 years after the visit.

that is not true in most states

The problem is those people who don’t qualify for Medicaid just don’t pay - same thing with the citizens - many qualify but don’t apply and when they go to the hospital they just don’t pay
