BATON ROUGE - A person was shot multiple times in a parking garage late Thursday night just steps away from LSU campus.
Emergency texts were sent out to students and said to avoid the area of Highland and Aster shortly after midnight. Half an hour later, another text was sent out saying that police were still on the scene, but there was no apparent threat to campus.
Officials confirmed later Friday morning that the coroner's office was called to the scene. The victim was later identified by police as Davanta Matthews, 28. Police said a motive and a suspect were yet unclear as of Friday morning.

ETA: Is that the inside of EBR prison or Angola? I've never had the pleasure of visiting either.
How did he get to bring a pair of Jordans to prison?

Was the suspect wearing a BRPD bullet proof vest and carrying a radio?

I sometimes wonder how many out-of-state families look on the map and see the proximity those apartments are to campus and assume they're safe. They are sending their sons and daughters to live blocks away from the dregs of society and have no idea.

Perhaps LSU will put this on their recruiting brochure.
I graduated from LSU. I still love the university. But when the time comes I won't be pushing my children to attend LSU. While crime on/near a college campus can happen anywhere, it is becoming all too commonplace for stuff like this to happen on the fringe of campus...if not actually on LSU's campus.
The main college bar area is located in a literal slum and the line between the campus/college housing and the ghetto is becoming blurrier by the day. Worst of all, the City leadership doesn't care about LSU enough to take all steps necessary to ensure it remains a desirable university and part of the City. Being that LSU is arguably the biggest draw to BR that is alarming.

Ghetto. Right out the north gate. No surprise.

Baton Rouge will end up destroying LSU while they sit idly by wondering what happened.
This is beyond sad. Never in my wildest dreams would I envision this would be how it all started to unravel.

My son stays in the Venue right next door. The Sterling apartments always have suspect characters going to and from down Aster. Surprise it doesn’t happen more.
