A lot of fast forward thru 8 for me, but overall the show is fantastic, & you should watch until the very end. You’ll want to anyway, no way anyone can stop mid show.

Great show, like mentioned the last couple of seasons sort of fall flat.

If at the end you feel a little bummed out about how it ends then start House of Dragon, only season 1 is out now but so far it's another great show about House Targaryen hundreds of years before Game of Thrones.

You can watch the entire thing, just the wrap up in the finale has tons of questionable decisions. There are still some interesting things in the Finale, but man I wish I wouldn't have watched it.

So I need to stop after season 4? My son said I definitely need to skip the last season. Apparently, he’s still pissed about the show’s ending.
First four are the best, but the wonks who dismiss five and six are just retroactively-mad about seven and eight.

Eight is pure trash. Seven is sub-par. One thru Six are good television.

Watch the entire thing and make your own determination as to its quality.

The last season and a half or so has lots of ridiculous shite in it, and most people hate how it ended (with good reason). But that being said, there’s also a lot of good shite in there as well. So it’s not like it’s all bad and the show just sucks. It’s just some pretty big things that they whiffed on that make it hard to take.

So if you take the good with the bad it’s still not overly bad. And the first 6-7 seasons are top-notch quality television.

you binge the whole over a few weeks you will probably think the last few seasons are fine. I think people who got real upset over the last season were book nerds and people who had invested multiple years of their lives into the show (i.e. TV nerds).

No matter if you watch it over 8 years or the course of a 70 hour weekend binge, the absolute 180 turn character decisions and non sensical / rushed plot lines would feel jarring to see starting in doses in season 5 and ending with a direct middle finger to everything that had come before it.

The show writers got bored and wanted to do Star Wars, and didn’t have an ounce of enough original writing talent to keep up with the source material when they ran out of slack, we’re determined to not have anyone “guess” the ending, and wanted to do it as quickly as possible. HBO begging them to do 10 seasons for years and they said no. Wanted to do something new but wanted to wrap it up. Hell they basically admit this a few times in their episode commentary, or atleast make it very obvious that they simply didn’t think of extremely obvious plot holes from their decisions because they needed to keep the shock and the big set pieces going. It led to the atrocity that was the series finale.

Season 6 was great and resolved a lot of dangling plotlines. I'm not sure why it's so reviled.

Season 6 seemed like a return to form after the Dorne travesty but feels like fruit from a poisonous tree now. It starts to set up the ultimate really dumb things that make the end so bad, and like with other big things from the later seasons, they are cool in the moment and the scene works or is fun, but then the cost is basically the entire theme of the show or character development or cut out potentially better storylines in its place.

Season 6 resets the table in a fun way but some of the plot is just kind of time burning, I wish they would’ve just taken their time from that point to the finish and taken the extended seasons order they had offered.

ETA

Alright that’s a wrap on my Manifesto in here gotta vent about this every once in a while

Finish the whole series. The ending may have been a dud but there's still a lot of really good stuff after season 4. While some of the seasons may not have been as good, some of the best episodes are after season 4.

The worst parts of the show falling apart were the character dialogue and the character arcs.

The first four seasons have rich language and this completely falls apart after the GRR material is exhausted.

Hodor got his arc but many like Danerys and especially the Lannister siblings are just destroyed by Dan and Dave's attempts to subvert viewer expectations.

Despite what many say, it was damn good through season 7. Final season did suck.

Nah, that’s way too early to quit. Seasons 5 and 6 are still good, with a couple great episodes. Season 7 was bad, but I was able to put up with most of it just by riding the momentum of everything else prior. Season 8 was basically unwatchable. Complete trash

Season 5, and 6….although not quite as special as the first 4 seasons, are still quite great. Things do derail after season 6 though.

If you really want the most authentic experience…stop after season 5 and pray that George r Martin finishes winds of winter. The book will pick up where season 5 ends

The show really falls off a cliff after battle of the bastards and the writers go off the rails as well

There are some badly written episodes but still things I liked despite D&D afterwards, but Battle of the Bastards is the last highlight of the series till Riwandi’s composition of “Night King.”

A lot of people didn't like the ending, me included, but the hate for the last few seasons is just one of those MTV board snowballs that keep growing over time. Watch the series and decide for yourself, it's not near as bad as it's made out to be.

I am too

It's almost up there with my aggravation of The Saints No-Call.
