you also have no kids, like to snort coke with randos and like spending time in Orleans parish prison so i would take your opinions with a grain of salt.

Just bought a house on Lake St John for when I retire. 3 more years in BR then I’m out.

I have a kid, our neighborhood is full of young families with kids and we have a catholic elementary school in the neighborhood. We also don't have to drive 30 minutes to get downtown, and my wife's commute to work is <10 minutes.

Youngsville may be fine if you either work there or work from home, but frick fighting the traffic if you work in Lafayette.

ETA: there are plenty of nice and safe areas that you can live in Lafayette where you don't have to deal with a 30+ minute commute each way.

I have to drive to Sugar Mill Pond every morning to bring my daughter to school. The traffic northbound on Verot is a disaster. It is backed up from Heleaux's to the roundabout in Youngsville. I would kill myself before having to fight that everyday.

We do this thread a few times a month, and I am here to confirm the results as accurate, as I have lived in all these places…

1. North shore (West St. Tammany)
2. South Lafayette / Youngsville / Broussard
3. Dutchtown/Prairieville
4. Ruston

I listed those in order balancing all things most suburban - - a wife, two kids, and a dog - - yuppie families would care about. I’ve never lived in Saint Francisville, but I bet it would be nice; however, it might be a little too far of a drive for me to get to the shopping, entertainment, and dining the girls in my life have come to expect.

Depends on what age you are and if you have kids.

If you’re a young single person with even moderate middle class money, New Orleans is by far the best place to be despite its faults. The dating and party scene there is simply unrivaled.

If you’re married and have school aged kids, the best places are Lafayette, Covington, and Mandeville. Hammond and Ascension Parish aren’t bad as well. If you’re wealthy enough to send your kids to private schools, BR, Metairie, and New Orleans start to look a little more appealing.

If you’re retired or an empty nester, the north shore is pretty much unbeatable.

cross the border and go to Bay St Louis

Honestly this is not a bad suggestion. I really enjoy Bay St. Louis and the Pass. We should really consider annexing it from Mississippi since it is basically just an extension of South Louisiana.

However, I will take a hard pass because climate change is here and I'm not getting fricked by a hurricane as soon as I move.

Mississippi coast people don't want to be part of Louisiana, we moved here to get out it. But ya'll want Jackson?

If you ever move to Mandeville/Madisonville you will never leave..All you have to do is drive around and go in a few businesses, grocery or dept stores and you will see why real fast..

And home of the Global Wildlife Center too - Definitely a top contender, thank you

I almost bought a house right across the street from Global Wildlife. It was a small country style house on 15 acres and there was a front sitting area that was all windows facing Global Wildlife. It was for sale for like 3 years, but of course it sold the week I tried to put in a full ask offer.

I did as recently as a couple months ago. Other than the commute nearly every other aspect of life improves by crossing that line. I was looking to give up my 7 minute commute in BR to move to one of the Felicianas before I realized the benefits of stretching just a bit further North. The commute is realistically an hour each way at worst, not a deal breaker for me.

The decision was taken out of my hands after I got a notice of a layoff, however, and I ended up taking a new job in Colorado instead two weeks ago. It’s been the best thing that ever happened to me and my wife.
