First car was a Mini Cooper also had a wrangler stick (was a 4.0L which were harder to find jn stick, so mad I got rid of that thing)
I am going to get a couple over the next couple of years as well to use as joy rides and try to hold on to them. With EVs taking over sticks and V8s are going to be priceless in 20 years among car enthusiasts especially.

Gen X. I can drive them. Drove over a million miles with some kind of manual transmission underneath. Eighteen wheelers, pickups, cars, and every kind of tractor, forklift, and loader ever invented.
Still doesn't mean I like them. My current daily driver is automatic, and I don't mind a bit. I'll periodically have to drive one of the farm trucks into town to pick up something, and shifting through 4, 5, 8, or 12 gears gets tedious. Especially in traffic.

She (who's obviously over 18) can drive a stick very well indeed.

You are "one with your truck" when you can change gears without using the clutch or grinding the gears.

My dad used to do this with his old CJ7 that he used for hunting. It had a habit of dropping the clutch linkage.

Mini Cooper turbo with a manual is a blast in the mountains.

Seems to be a lost skill among the late millenial/Gen Z groups.
Both of my cars have 3 pedals and I intend to hang on to them as long as I can. It can get annoying in ATL traffic and on hills (of which there are also a lot in ATL), but the open road performance is totally worth it.
im a millenial (1st year) and i know how as my truck in HS was a stick
but wtf does someone need to know how to do that for? its a lost skill because it is no longer needed.
thats like saying....you suck if you dont know how to milk a cow(actual cow, not just fat pregnant women) Why in the frick would 99% of people need to know that.
i mean 99.99% of new cars made in last decade are auto, so why is it a skill that is needed anymore?
do i need to teach my kids to use a rotary phone too? the obsession with this board with driving a stick is weird, every couple months this is brought up by a boomer on here like its some everyday skill people need

Of course I know how. Any man with an ounce of self respect knows how to operate a standard.

I'm old enough I remember a time when in several countries unless you took the driving test in a vehicle with a manual transmission you got a restricted license.

Learned on a three on the tree el Camino. I’ve been around for six decades though.

My dad made me learn to drive in a stick shift so an automatic would be easier.
First time at a stoplight on a hill with a car behind me was like this:

i'm 37. my first truck was a 1997 chevy S10, 5 speed with the 4.3 vortec. Man i was smokin folks with that thing in high school. after i burned through the first set of back tires and my dad made me pay for the second set, my racing days came to an end.

Which is funny because boomers were the ones that killed the standard transmission. Once they became the dominant new car buyer, sales of vehicles with automatic transmissions soared and manuals plummeted.

I learned to drive at 12 with a standard on a truck.
My first two cars were standards. I can still do it, but glad I don’t have to.
