I learned to drive on a stick. I haven’t driven one in probably ten years though.

Because in a good portion of the world, manual transmissions are still the norm.

i understand that but 99% of this board is in the US and 99% of us drivers will never go overseas and drive.

like i said for 99% of the US its a skill that is not needed in any shape or form.

and its not like its hard to learn and once you do its like riding a bike, you get rusty, but never really forget how.

Every vehicle I've ever owned has had a manual transmission.

Quoted for truth. My JCW loves the mountains.

I had a 73 Scout II. Sold it the last time gas prices were insane. Had a 392 in it.

I know how to but IDK why some folks are proud that their car is slightly more difficult to drive.

My first truck was a 68 chevy with three on the tree and a single barrel straight 6.

I want one of those. Maybe a 1975 Dodge d100 with a 318 with cherry bombs and speed 3 on tree.

On a truthful note, standard was the first vehicle I learned to drive on. An old chevy S10 extended cab. It's a lot harder to learn on a 4cyl engine than a big diesel truck. I can drive a dump truck or a big box van a lot easier than a little standard Honda Civic.

Speaking of Civic, my ex-wife had a standard Civic when we were dating and living Nola. Some thug tried to steal it one night, and only got a block away before they gave up trying to drive it off. Found it on the curb with the door left wide open. Millenial theft deterrent.

It's fun on a weekend car. Sucks in traffic.

The few manuals today are really easy to drive. They practically shift themselves

Anything up to a 13 speed semi-truck. Learned to double clutch and split those gears when I was 13.

I was just trying to remember the other day with a 3 on the tree if reverse was toward me and up or away and down...

i guarantee that at least 85-90% of americans couldn't drive stick at this exact moment

yeah, a lot can learn in a matter of 1-2 days, but if you asked them right now, if they could get you from A to B with a mixture of city and highway roads, the overwhelming majority wouldn't be able to do it

I agree with this. Some of my favorite vehicles over the years were manuals. However, I wouldn't want one as my only means of transportation.

I mean, so what? I rode motorcycles for years too. I'll bet most Americans couldn't do that at a moment's notice either.

It's not really a bragging right to be able to harness the power of the clutch.

I can still drive a manual, but haven't had to in a long time. I've driven vehicles without power steering, too. Definitely don't like that.
