Started driving in 21 century. Parents didn’t own one. Never learned.

Mini Cooper turbo with a manual is a blast in the mountains.

Quoted for truth. My JCW loves the mountains.

Bought my kid a standard Mini Cooper S with the Supercharger. At first it was a nightmare, but now that I have all 5 flashing lights off, headgasked fixed, and the airbag issued figured out, and replaced every seal on the car, its actually enjoyable. It was pretty dirt cheap so I figured I needed to put some work in. Boy, was I right.

Found the 2 piece BBS wheels online for 50 bucks each and picked up the rally lights for less than a 100 bucks from a company in GBR. Cool and fun little ride.

I can drive one, but it's been years. I used to even drive a truck with a manual shift on the column (shite's annoying).

Do they even make sticks anymore? Aren't most manual sportscars now "paddle" shifted?

I can still drive a manual, but haven't had to in a long time. I've driven vehicles without power steering, too. Definitely don't like that.

My first vehicle was a 91 Chevy S10, manual transmission, no power steering, vinyl bench seat. It at least had A/C and a radio.

Current car is a dual clutch. All the fun of a manual in manual mode, the convenience of an automatic in normal mode, half-second gear shifts, and no slush box torque converter.

I used to. Haven't tried in probably 15 years so I'm sure I'd grind the shite out of that clutch now.

Cars to drive to work - automatic.

Old cars: four with 3 speed manuals, one with a four speed manual.

there it is. the ole....if you dont know how to do this completely 100% useless skill from a by gone era....cant call yourself a man comment

Men learn skills. Oil change, plugging a tire, fixing a toilet, how to jump start a car, change a light fixture, and yes, being able to operate a standard vehicle.

It’s not hard and it’s fun. Kids learn how to do it. I could teach you in 30 minutes. You sure are getting your panties in a wad about not knowing how. It’s laughable. I can tell you’re intimidated by it. It’s OK, I was too…when I was 15.

I drove my 45 Ford GPW (Willys jeep made at the Ford plant). Nice kid who works there asks if he could drive it. I said "sure", if you're over 18 (insurance)." He then asked "Is it automatic?"

He couldn't drive a stick so no drive.

I can make it across town maybe, but it's not something I really care about.

First type transmission I learned on. I bought a 54 Plymouth Plaza sedan in 70 with a flathead 6 and 3 on the tree.

Then I got into motorcycles-----all of which have clutches and multi-gear manual transmissions.

I hate that there are so few manual transmission options now. Besides, manual is almost a guarantee your car won't be carjacked because these idiot hoodrats don't have a clue how to operate a manual transmission.

So a 15 year old girl is more of a man than a 30 year old man?

Not a fan of that logic. I'm also never a fan of someone elevating themselves because they can do something they admit is so easy a child could do it. You diminish your own skills with this approach. It's like admitting you have so few skills that you're reduced to overestimating simple tasks that you can do.

Almost every car I’ve owned has been manual. But that will be coming to an end shortly. I have to buy a truck when I have 2 kids to haul around. The sports car won’t cut it anymore.

The first generation of the new MINI with the supercharger is a different creature than the 2nd gen turbo MINI I have. First gen can have mechanical issues, as you found out, but they are fun as hell. My buddy, a MINI mechanic, has one that is bulletproof. He's usually with me for mountain twisties.
